Human Resources Committee Meeting

Our Speaker will be Norberto Rosa-Ramos, the Director of the Norfolk Area Office of the EEOC.  Mr. Rosa-Ramos will provide our members an update on the latest developments in the laws and regulations enforced by the EEOC, along with advice on how HR professionals in our member companies can best stay on the right side of the law enforced by his agency.  We hope you will be able to join us for what promises to be a valuable and informative session.   

Contracts Committee Meeting

This meeting will be our quarterly engagement session with the leadership team from MARMC Code 400, Contracts.  If you have agenda items you would like to have discussed during the meeting, please contact Tony Mazzeo to add them.

The OSHA 5410 Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the Maritime Industry Course covers OSHA policies, procedures, and standards for the maritime industry.

Security Committee Meeting

This meeting will be open forum.  Hot topics of interest will be; new Ship’s Visit Request (ShVR), Foreign Nationals Access, Camera Cell Phones inside NNSY CIA, DISS & NBIS, and more.

Safety and Environmental Committee Meeting

Member companies are encouraged to submit desired agenda topics. Please send agenda topics to Safety@VirginiaShipRepair.org by Friday May 3, 2024.

Shipboard Cableway Inspection (May 13-15)

This course is under the oversight of HII Technical Solutions and upon successful completion attendees will receive a NAVSEA Cableway Certification card. The cableway program provides NAVSEA Cableway training and certification to students.

Introduction to Blueprint Reading & Technical Drawing (May 13-17)

This course is designed for rising welders, pipefitters, ship-fitters, electricians and workers who need a working knowledge of blueprint technology, symbols and design features specific to ships.

Quality Assurance Committee Meeting

VSRA QMB and Quality Assurance Committee meetings will be combined for all future meetings. VSRA Quality Assurance Committee members are invited to participate in both sessions. The first portion of the meeting will be the QMB session with MARMC representatives. Once the MARMC representatives have been released, the QA Committee portion of the meeting will follow. 

Quality Management Board (QMB) Meeting

Emergency First Response Certification (May 17)

Emergency First Response training is OSHA approved and internationally accepted.  This course meets the OSHA Guidelines CFR 1910.151 compliance standards for workplace safety.

Emergency First Response Refresher (May 17)

This is a 1/2 a day refresher course from 7:30am to 11:30am. The EFR Refresher course meets OSHA Guidelines 29CFR 1910.151 compliance standards for workplace safety.

OSHA 10 Hour Maritime Industry Course (May 20-21)

The OSHA 10 Hour Maritime Industry course awards the 10-Hour certification card and meets all of the mandated regulations for the Maritime Industry (OSHA Code of Federal Regulations 29 CFR 1915) course in a format that specifically addresses the challenges and environmental conditions specific to the shipyards. In addition, shipyard specific regulations and issues are covered in depth. Instructors are authorized by OSHA endorsed certification programs. Cards are issued through the Instructor's certifying body. All book, material and certification costs are covered in the course fee.

VSRA General Membership Luncheon Meeting

VSRA Board of Directors meetings are held on the odd numbered months. The General Membership Luncheon meetings are held every month.

Cybersecurity Committee Meeting

There is no May Cybersecurity Meeting.

In lieu of the May Cybersecurity Committee meeting, we are recommending and encouraging attendance at the following events:

• TASC and TGIC Cybersecurity Exchange Briefing will take place on May 22nd from 8:30am – 11:30am at the Old Dominion University Darden Center and ONLINE. Panelists will include Mr. Patrick O'Donnell, Kaufman & Canoles, Government Contracts Group, Ms. Theresa Duvall, Lecturer, School of Cybersecurity, Old Dominion University & Internship Chair for Coastal Virginia Center for Cyber Innovation, Ms. Tracy Gregorio, CEO, G2 Ops, Inc., and Mr. Greg Tomchick, President, Valor Cybersecurity. This promises to be an great opportunity to gain insights and exchange knowledge with industry peers. Your participation in this event is highly encouraged. There is no charge to attend the exchange briefing.

• AFCEA Hampton Roads Maritime IT Summit, scheduled for June 4-6 at the Hilton Norfolk The Main Hotel. This summit is a premier gathering for professionals in the field of maritime IT with a focus on the Navy. The agenda is being prepared by the Department of Navy CIO (DONCIO) in collaboration with AFCEA. There is a fee  to attend the summit.

Your active involvement in these events will enrich your own understanding of cybersecurity and CMMC requirements and also contribute to the broader community dialogue on these critical issues.
