The November General Membership Luncheon meeting was held on Tuesday, November 17, 2015 at the Portsmouth Renaissance Hotel. The guest speaker for this luncheon was RADM Thomas K. Shannon, Commander, Military Sealift Command, who spoke of the need for industry to assist MSC in identifying ways to operate more efficiently, and to attract more contract bids from the local ship repair industry, stating simply, "help us help you."

The first General Membership Luncheon meeting of 2016 will be held on Tuesday, January 26. The speaker for the meeting will be Bill Crow, President of the Virginia Ship Repair Association. Bill will be presenting the VSRA Annual Report - an overview of VSRA activities, initiatives, and successes in 2015 and a look ahead at the goals for 2016.

On July 6, 2015, in response to a presidential memorandum directing revisions to “modernize and streamline” the existing federal overtime regulations, the U.S. Department of Labor (“DOL”) published a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (“NPRM”) proposing changes to these regulations.

The nature of the shipping industry includes many players and jurisdictions involved in a single shipment of goods. This situation presents a myriad of potential pitfalls where the unscrupulous criminal lurks and seeks to take advantage of the unprepared.

The 10th Annual Ship Repair Industry Awareness LEGO Competition has officially launched! Just as we have in past years, this year we will need volunteers to serve as technical advisors and judges. We also need sponsors for this event! This is a great opportunity to give back to the community and represent your company!
