The May General Membership Luncheon meeting was held on Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at the Portsmouth Renaissance Hotel. The luncheon featured presentation of the annual Virginia Ship Repair Foundation Tradesperson of the Year Awards, sponsored by PNC Bank. These awards honor the "best of the best" ship repairers in Hampton Roads.

The next VSRA General Membership Luncheon will be held on Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at the Portsmouth Renaissance Hotel in the Holley Ballroom (1st Floor). The featured Guest Speaker will be CAPT Dan Lannamann, Commanding Officer, Mid-Atlantic Regional Maintenance Center (MARMC).

Clerical workers are excluded from Longshore Act coverage. This exclusion was one of several added by the 1984 Amendments to the Longshore Act. The Act does not define “clerical” due to its nature as a commonplace word. When a word is not defined in a statute it is presumed to have its popular and plain everyday meaning. The word itself is plain and the statutory language is clear. The problem is that jobs in the real world frequently cannot be classified so plainly or clearly.

At the conclusion of the May 4, 2017 VSRA Seminar on Cybersecurity & Safeguarding Covered Defense Information (CDI), the group in attendance voted to support the formation of a new VSRA Committee on Cybersecurity. The first meeting of this Committee will be held on Thursday, June 22, 2017 at 9:00 AM at the VSRA Office (150 Boush Street, Suite 802, Norfolk, VA 23510).
