Damage Control Technician

Overview The GBS Group, an engineering and technology solution provider, is seeking a Damage Control Subject Matter Expert to join our Virginia Beach headquarters office. The GBS Group designs and delivers high technology services and solutions to most advanced naval and maritime ships, as well as to special purpose platforms and assets. Our office is located within 10 miles of the Virginia Beach resort area and the downtown Norfolk Waterfront shopping district. Responsibilities include but are not limited to Provide Damage Control subject matter expertise support to NSWCPD system development teams responsible for providing the fleet with modern digital tools and systems for the purpose of controlling DC equipment, conducting DC training, managing DC repair and response actions, and assessing health of the ship during and following a DC event Collaborate with multiple parties to execute system support and training including NAVSEA, NSWCPD, SURFOR, ATG, EAP, and various other commands and training/assessment groups Promoting the use of new DC technologies and provide guidance in their development Participate in peer reviews, design reviews, and share knowledge with engineering and development teams Develop or update onboard training curriculum and conduct instruction in support of installation and delivery of the DC systems to the USN Travel is anticipated to be up to 35% at times Qualifications Candidates for this position must possess the following professional experience and qualifications: At least 10 years of experience in the operation, repair, and maintenance of firefighting systems and equipment, damage control equipment, and chemical, biological and radiological defense equipment. At least 10 years of experience directing or supervising a work force of lesser skilled technical personnel in the performance of repair and maintenance functions At least 8 years of Naval service with position as DCC, DCA, or CHENG (or similar position) Experience providing training in the operation, maintenance and repair of damage control systems and equipment, life saving devices, and various firefighting methods Provide technical in-process review of progress of work identifying specific deficiencies and recommending corrective action for items identified. Provide technical guidance to Ship’s Force with testing and repair of HM&E systems and support equipment. Provide and maintain all engineering evaluations and recommend changes or improvements to HM&E systems. Must have an active DoD security clearance Desired Characteristics: Possesses a working knowledge of Naval Shipboard acronyms, surface ship engineering systems, equipment and operations Adept at compiling data and other information and forming them into clear, succinct products for senior leadership Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written Ability to learn new tasks and concepts quickly Self-motivated team player must be able to work independently Detail oriented and efficient at multitasking Microsoft Office Suite Products (Word, Excel, Power Point, Project) Manipulating, formatting, and analyzing data.
