Maritime Electrical Power Systems Engineer

Overview The GBS Group, an engineering services and consulting firm, is seeking a Maritime Electrical Power Systems Engineer to join our Virginia Beach headquarters office. The GBS Group designs and delivers high technology services and solutions to most advanced naval and maritime ships, as well as to special purpose platforms and assets. Our office is located within 10 miles of the Virginia Beach resort area and the downtown Norfolk Waterfront shopping district. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Support shipboard electrical power and machinery control systems and equipment. Provide design support for integration of equipment in an industrial/shipboard environment. Develop programming and equipment standards for shipboard electrical power generation, control and distribution systems. Prepare technical documentation such as reports, procedures and test plans in support of all aspects of shipboard electrical power generation, control and distribution systems. Assist in troubleshooting, diagnosing and repairing shipboard electrical power generation, control and distribution systems and equipment. Participate in requirements development and design reviews to document system issues and revise design specifications and other detailed documentation for new systems and modernization efforts. Contribute to proposal development by providing generation of Work Breakdown Structures (WBS’s), Bill of Materials, and labor estimates for shipboard electrical power generation, control and distribution system upgrades. Communicate effectively with team members in software engineering, hardware engineering and program management. Qualifications Candidates for this position must possess the following professional experience and qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited college or university or 10 or more years of experience 5-7 years of experience working with shipboard electrical power generation systems Proficient knowledge of the fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures associated with US Navy and commercial shipboard electrical power generation, control and distribution systems. Ability to troubleshoot software and hardware issues related to shipboard electrical power generation, control and distribution systems and equipment. Ability to travel up to 40% Ability to obtain and maintain a secret clearance. Desired Characteristics: Woodward, Basler, or ComAp generator controls experience.
