Project Controller

Overview The GBS Group, an engineering services and consulting firm, is seeking a Project Controller for our Virginia Beach office. The GBS Group is a commercial and government engineering services contractor with a variety of contract types, but this position will focus on our commercial business. Our Headquarters is located within 10 miles of the Virginia Beach resort area and downtown Norfolk’s Waterside District and includes a 24x7 Operational Support Center monitoring all client installations in North America as well as a world class lab with configurations of all client hardware and software systems. Responsibilities include but are not limited to The Project Controllers are responsible for supporting Project Managers in overseeing the financial health of the project by analyzing costs, revenue, risks and pricing. The Project Controllers compile and analyze financial information for both commercial and government contracts. Successful candidates should also be comfortable with performing other administrative functions as needed since we work in a team environment. This position reports to directly to the Senior Project Controller.The Project Controller will predominantly be responsible for Invoicing, Contract Functions and Financial Reporting as outlined below: Invoicing: Review and approve expense reports. Gather information and generate invoices for internal approval. Format and finalize invoice to submit to customer. Send invoices to customer and respond to any customer inquiries. Enter Government invoices into WAWF. Contract Functions: Ability to understand and clearly communicate the requirements of contracts to the project teams. Review contract documents and creates WBS Codes to enter in Accounting System. Enter new jobs and modifications into the accounting system. Add employees to job in the accounting system. Assist Subcontract Administrator in updating purchasing log. Assist Contracts on special reports. Financial Reporting: Performs financial forecasting and reconciliation of project accounts. Prepare financial deliverable to customers. Create and track division and project budgets. Develops integrated revenue/expense analyses, projections, reports, and presentations. Assist Account Managers in preparation of Invoice and Cash Flow Schedules. Creates and analyzes monthly/quarterly/annual reports and ensures financial information has been accurately recorded. Using accounting system, generate reports and check for accuracy. Responsible for tracking division’s contracts and subcontract purchase orders. Assists with development of proposals in response to solicitations and requests for quotes. Responsible for preparing informal estimates to clients. Prepare other special financial reports as needed. Qualifications Candidates for this position must possess the following professional experience and qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting or equivalent Minimum of three (3) or more years of experience as a project and cost control or pricing specialist. Ability to obtain and maintain a secret clearance. Desired Characteristics: Should have a general understanding of contract types (especially FFP). Government contract experience desired. Government contract rate structures; DCAA and FAR knowledge. Understanding of GAAP strongly preferred. Prefer candidates with expertise in accounting, contract/subcontract development and law, or PMP. Communication and collaboration skills are essential. Must be able to work independently under general supervision. A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required. Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness, strong attention to details and ability to identify issues or inconsistencies. Ability to work with minimal guidance and take ownership of work product. Ability to work well with others in an open environment. Previous experience working in Accounting Software. Occasional travel may be required.
