Designer III will work with little to no guidance in developing drawings and designs for (SID’s) Ship Installation Drawing packages.
Perform site/ship checks for installation, removal and/or modification drawing development.
Perform site/ship checks for current conditions.
Review vendor installation control drawings and shipcheck data to develop Technical Data Packages.
Prepare technical guidance packages for preparation for ship installation drawings.
Develop drawing and work specifications for maritime upgrades and modernizations.
Provide expertise to assist in proposal and bid creations.
Prepare layouts and specifications, reviews design proposals and drawings and assures that specifications meet performance requirements.
Provide guidance to Mid and Jr level designers to solve design problems.
Must have a high school diploma or equivalent with at least 15 years in the Maritime Industry or a relatable field.
Must be familiar with the development of drawings for U.S. Navy, Military Sealift Command (MSC), and commercial ships and vessels. Individual should be knowledgeable in NAVSEA, American Bureau of Shipbuilding (ABS), and Coast Guard standards and specifications as they relate to engineering, design, and drawing development.
Must be proficient in AutoCAD to develop drawings.
Must have experience performing HVAC Designs in AutoCAD.
Must be able to perform technical evaluations for acceptable substitutes for materials, based on engineering evaluation of material properties, environmental considerations, and service conditions.
Must have experience developing and/or reviewing designs and drawings.
Must have experience working and inspecting ship structures and supporting infrastructure.
Must be able to work on a team as an equal collaborator to help solve engineering issues.
Have an Associate’s degree
Have experience developing drawings for one or more of the below shipboard mechanical systems including:
Fluid Systems (Fuel, Lube Oil, Hydraulic, Water, Drainage and Ballasting systems, chilled water etc.)
Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems
Fire Fighting and Extinguishing systems
Compressed Air systems
Main, Auxiliary and Deck Machinery
Hotel Services Habitability Upgrades
Must have or be eligible to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance.
Occasional travel- up to 15%
Must be willing to travel CONUS/OCONUS
Must be able to work in an office, industrial or shipboard environment.
Capable of climbing ladders (including ship masts) and tolerating confined spaces and extreme temperature variances during site surveys.
Lifting and moving of materials not to exceed the guidelines set for one man lift.
Must be able to perform site surveys and carry a lap top computer.

Engineering Design workers are typically responsible for the generation of panel layouts, sub assemblies, schematics, wiring diagrams, wire run lists, component selection, etc. for electrical systems of large scale industrial machinery. The main tool for design documentation is AutoCAD.
•Assure drawings and layouts are accurate, complete, and finished in a timely manner.
•Generation and maintenance of bill of materials and parts lists.
•Applying Engineering design techniques and utilize calculations in support of design/experimental activities.
•Develop electrical wiring schematics, sub-assembly drawings, and bills of material for control system design.
•Identify and solve technical engineering problems.
•Provide or assist in the creation of technical descriptions of operation, equipment checkout procedures, technical reports, user manuals and other documentation as required.
•Release components and system designs for manufacture of orders.
•Estimate man-hours required for tasks and report progress on assigned tasks.
•Provide plans, schedules, and estimates for technical programs.
•Work in conjunction with other groups to organize and plan assigned projects.
A BSEE / BSET or Two Year Electrical Technical Degree is typically required.
1-5 years experience in CAD electrical design related to ship repair/maintenance using recent versions of AutoCAD
Must be able to read, interpret and produce engineering schematics, wiring diagrams, point-to-point drawings, and engineering fabrication drawings
Must be able to work aboard vessels, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces
Must be a team player
Must be flexible in reference to project priorities
Must be willing to assemble technical manuals
