Fabrication Shop Foreman

Summary of duties – The Fabrication Shop Foreman has a background in a metal fabrication/welding environment and has supervisory experience in a Welding Shop. They will supervise and coordinate activities of employees working in the sheet metal fabrication, welding, painting, and stock areas of the shop facility. The Fabrication Shop Foreman will be responsible for daily operation of Welding shop and assisting the Fabrication Shop Supervisor with all tasks. They must be able to interpret specifications, blueprints, and job orders. They will establish and adjust work sequences to meet work completion schedules, analyze and resolve work problems and maintain and submit time records. They study schedules and estimate worker/hour requirements for job completion.

Specific description of duties

  • Must be thoroughly familiar with marine construction and shipyard work and all types of industrial cutting, burning and metal bending shop tools to include safe use and maintenance.
  • The Fabrication Shop Foreman shall demonstrate clear leadership and development of subordinate employees. Fosters continuous improvement and continuous improvement culture.
  • Ability to read blueprints on new and repair work, fitting, cutting, proficiency with a cutting torch (Oxy/ace and Plasma), rolling, bending large steel also necessary and use of hand tools, etc
  • Supervise employees by providing training, safe working condition and PPE environment, necessary tools, and equipment to meet customer requirements within budget. Must have safety a top priority.
  • Candidate must have the strong ability develop, train, and lead subordinates.
  • Experience with precisely interpreting NAVSEA approved structural drawings or similar blueprints.
  • Achieves manufacturing excellence by establishing and communicating goals, coaching, evaluating performance and developing people.
  • Provide technical training related to maintenance, process systems and safety standards.    
  • Maintain safety and environmental health within the facility.
  • Provide support and direction for good manufacturing, housekeeping, and safety standards.
  • Leads rotating shift schedule and supervise welding and maintenance personnel daily activities.
  • Leads employees in safety, productivity, efficiency, process improvement and quality.
  • Performs any other assignments or tasks as needed or requested by management to assist in accomplishing the organization’s mission, objectives and goals.
  • Overtime, to include weekend work, and travel outside the local areas is routinely required but not guaranteed.

Education / Specialized training

  • HS diploma or GED may be required depending on varying contract stipulations; certificate documentation required for listed education
  • Must have experience in Marine Construction and be able to interpret specifications, blueprints, and job orders.
  • Must be proficient in SMAW< OSS Steel to HY-100 < Stainless - FCAW - GMAW <Aluminum welding, which would be the primary focus of subordinates.
  • Minimum 8 years’ experience in a fabrication shop and 2 years in Leadership role.
  • Comprehensive structural blueprint interpretation is required with specific experience in fitting and welding.
  • Comprehensive understating of all machinery, hot work requirements and stringent safety protocols relative to prefabrication efforts.

  Security Clearance

  • Clearance up to secret level may be required.
  • Be able to access all US Military facilities, Homeland Security facilities and private shipyards

 

Physical/Environmental Job Requirements

Physical requirements for the job may include the following:

  • Lifting/moving up to and including 50 pounds
  • Operating with heavy metal and machinery at times in a noisy and non-climate-controlled environment.
  • Performing tasks in confined spaces

Our work is primarily onboard naval vessels that may include variables of physical activity, i.e. stooping, climbing, walking, etc. 

In performing these duties, you may be required to work outdoors.  You will experience temperature variations, extremely loud noises and other physical hazards.
