Wednesday, February 01, 2012 - Friday, February 03, 2012OSHA 5400 (Jan 31-Feb 3, 2012)This course is designed for personnel in the private sector interested in teaching the 10 and 30 hour maritime safety and health outreach program to their employees and other interested groups. Special emphasis is placed on those topics that are required in the 10 and 30 hr programs as well as on those that are the most hazardous, using OSHA standards as a guide. Course participants are briefed on effective instructional approaches and the effective use of visual aids and handouts. This course allows the student to become a trainer in the Outreach Program and to conduct 10 and 30 hour maritime classes in Shipyard Employment, Marine Terminals, and Long shoring and to issue cards to participants after verifying course completion.2.6 CEU’s. Wednesday, February 15, 2012 - Friday, February 17, 2012NAVSEA Basic Paint Inspector Course PREP(Feb 15-17, 2012)In order to better prepare your workers VSRA is offering a 3 day prep-course specifically to address exam standards and increase Inspector knowledge. This course will review coating documents such as SSPC PA-2, NSTM Chapter 631 and NSTM Chapter 634 for Non-Skid and others. It will also provide a thorough review of SI 009-32 and applicable sections of 009-04. Monday, February 20, 2012NAVSEA Cableway (Feb 20-24)Over the past years many of our members have requested Cable Certification Training. After looking at many options, many of them not viable, we are finally able to offer NAVSEA Cableway Certification course. This course is under the oversight of AMSEC and upon successful completion attendees will receive NAVSEA Cableway Certification card. The cableway program provides NAVSEA Cableway training and certification to students. This training and certification provides students with the safety and knowledge to inspect the ships cableways; identify and correct all category 1 & 2 discrepancies to include: the removal of dead-end cables, repair of wire way discrepancies and correction of all fire zone and water-tight discrepancies. The course provides 35+ hours of lecture, video, hands-on-lab work and text based assignments over a five day period. A score 70% or higher on the comprehensive exam is required for successful completion. The course covers all NAVSEA requirements and skill sets in depth. For a course overview, please contact VSRA. Tuesday, February 21, 2012VSRA General Membership Luncheon MeetingVSRA Board of Directors meetings are held on the third Tuesday of each month, followed by a lunch meeting with the general membership. The Chairman of the VSRA Board and the VSRA committee chairs report to the general membership at the monthly meeting, followed by a guest speaker's presentation.
