It was a cool brisk morning on Tuesday, October 17, 2017 with the wind coming off the Chesapeake Bay as volunteers arrived to set up for the 31st Annual VSRF Golf Tournament at Bayville Golf Club. As the morning progressed and with players starting to arrive, it could not have been a more perfect day for golf. Isn’t it well known that any day is a great day for golf?
The beautiful weather greeted the golfers as they checked in with the volunteer staff at registration. Golfers received lunch and commemorative items in celebration of our 31st anniversary year. It was a perfect day to tee off at 12:30 and enjoy the afternoon on the course. Later, golfers gathered for the after golf reception which included special recognitions, awards, a buffet dinner, and with high hopes of winning many fantastic gift items and door prizes. Congratulations to team Integrity Staffing Services in winning first place. Coming in second place was G2 Ops & Madison Hospitality andCapitol Finishes, Inc. taking third.
It is no surprise that all 144 golfer slots sold out prior to June 15th with full sponsorships. 50 out of 265 VSRA member companies were either sponsors, contributors or participants – that’s 19% of our membership! We are truly thankful that so many VSRA member companies and volunteers go above and beyond in supporting this annual event by offering their time and providing extra gift items to enhance this great tournament. This year we were able to secure 66 door prize items and 16 big prize ticket items for the golfers. I do believe that everyone walked away with something.
For the past 12 years, Bayville Golf Club has been our venue of choice for this annual event. This beautiful and challenging course in Virginia Beach is where the friendly staff will greet you upon arrival, remove your bag from your car, and always make you feel welcome. We are truly thankful to Bayville Golf Club and to our member sponsor, Jerry Miller, for allowing us to continue to hold this annual fundraising event at Bayville Golf Club.
With the assistance of many volunteers coupled with the continued member support and sponsorships of this annual event, we were able to execute a very successful tournament which will assist in our mission of providing workforce training, development and career outreach to the ship repair industry. All proceeds from this event benefit the Virginia Ship Repair Foundation and the development of identified training required for all of our ship repair workers. Every year I have said, and I will say it again this year, “I don’t know how we can top this next year”. Somehow we always do and that is because of you, our valued members!
Thank You to our members and many volunteers for making this the number one, sought-after tournament year after year!
Be sure to mark your calendar for October 16, 2018 for the 32nd annual tournament. It will certainly be another successful tournament, excellent food, fun and great golfing - all to benefit your Virginia Ship Repair Foundation!
