April Membership Meeting guest speaker Rear Admiral James J. Shannon

Shannon’s operational experience spans across the U.S. 2nd, 3rd, 5th and 7th Fleets, and seven commands afloat including a logistic ship, patrol hydrofoil, destroyers, frigates, and an Aegis cruiser. He commanded USS Estocin (FFG 15) while in support of Operation UNITAS and Operation Noble Eagle.

He briefed us on the recent General Assembly session which he deemed the “transportation” session and shared his concerns for the next two years in regards to increasing cost of transportation versus a lack of funding to meet the cost.

2013 7th Annual Tradesmen Awards - NOW OPEN for Nominations!

VSRF established the Tradesmen of the Year Award in 2006. Each year we get numerous nominations in two categories to determine the winners for the year. The Junior awardee has less than 5 years experience in trade experience, the Senior 5 years or more in trade experience.

The Virginia Ship Repair Foundation had its origin in 1979. Corporate officers of the individual private sector shipyards in South Hampton Roads jointly established a training facility named the Tidewater Maritime Training Institute (TMTI).
