On January 31, 2017, VSRA President Bill Crow presented the 2016 Annual Report to the General Membership at the first luncheon of the new year. Describing 2016 as the "year of partnerships," Mr. Crow spoke to the unending "pride, passion, and patriotism" that kept the ship repair industry strong through austere times.

The next VSRA General Membership Luncheon will be held on Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at the Portsmouth Renaissance Hotel in the Holley Ballroom (1st Floor). The featured Guest Speaker will be RDML James P. Downey, Commander, Navy Regional Maintenance Center and Deputy Commander for Surface Warfare, Naval Sea Systems Command.

The 11th Annual Ship Repair Virtual LEGO Competition is underway! With 22 SCHOOLS registered to compete, this year promises to be our biggest and best ever! However, in order to ensure the success of this one-of-a-kind, vital program for our next generation of ship repairers, we need your help.

In today’s world, we have had to adapt to changing new threats in the security field, from bomb threats to active shooters, now referred to as active threats. It seems that once an act of terrorism or threat has occurred, multiple incidents of that same nature seem to occur all over the United States. There are ways for you to help identify threats or signs of Terrorism.

Injuries reflect safety climate, not lack of employee motivation

U.S. employees and their employers are required to report to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) any work-related injury or illness that results in death, loss of consciousness, days away from work, restricted job duty or transfer, or medical treatment beyond first aid. Accordingly, in 2014 roughly 3 million U.S. workers were injured on the job and several thousand died.  Staggering as these numbers are, they only capture about one-third of all work-related injuries and illnesses.
