Upon completion of his military career in the US Navy, Dave Edwards held project manager positions involving critical Inertial and Satellite Navigation systems. In 1996, he was invited to charter the creation of the Engineering Services Division of WRSystems in Norfolk, VA as Director of Engineering, where he was instrumental in WRSystems being awarded the Engineering Services Division’s initial $3 million contract with a total staff of 22. Now, as President and COO, he leads a diverse group of more than 300 engineering, technical, logistics, documentation, training and administrative professionals focused on supporting customers in the federal and commercial maritime markets.
A 2005 graduate of the CIVIC Leadership Institute, Mr. Edwards was invited as a standing board member to Chair the Old Dominion University Batten College of Engineering and Technology Advisory Board. In 2010, he was honored with the College’s inaugural Leadership Award as part of its Distinguished Honors Celebration. A charter Advisory Board member of the Virginia Modeling, Analysis and Simulation Center (VMASC), Mr. Edwards serves on the Advisory Board Executive Committees for Technology Hampton Roads, Virginia Ship Repair Association, and the Greater Norfolk Corporation. Most recently, he was appointed to the Board of Directors for Opportunity Inc. Hampton Roads Workforce Development and his other affiliations include membership in the Virginia Maritime Association, International Propeller Club, Institute of Navigation, and the US Navy League.
Featured on CNBC as North America’s most Psychologically Healthy Work Place winner in 2009, WRSystems is a member of Inside Business magazine's Hall of Fame for the Best Places to Work in Hampton Roads and is consistently rated one of the Top Places to work both locally and within the state. Additionally, WRSystems was the 2009 recipient of the Corporate Volunteer Excellence Award from Volunteer Hampton Roads; the 2006 High Tech Company of the Year as awarded by the Hampton Roads Technology Council; the 2002 Governor's Technology Award and was a Norfolk Business Star in 2001.
