This meeting’s topic is 'Training Opportunities for Essential Maritime Trades’. We will present institutions which maintain standards and offer training programs for trade skills deemed essential to the region’s maritime industry.

This meeting will include the following agenda: A Hampton Roads Workforce Council presentation and discussion concerning the regional maritime industry’s current and projected demand for Electricians, Welders, and Coatings Specialists (Marine Blasters and Painters) with a discussion on the regional demand for these trade skills. AMPP (Association for Materials, Protection, and Performance) representatives then will provide a presentation covering AMPP’s ongoing and projected programs, and their efforts to facilitate Coatings training and certification in the Hampton Roads region. This will be followed with a presentation by the Advanced Technology Institute (ATI), which will introduce the VSRA audience to ATI’s trades training programs, to include Marine Electrician, Marine Welder, Diesel Mechanic, HVAC, and Commercial Driving (CDL training and licensure), all applicable to and needed by the maritime industry. At the conclusion of each presentation and talk, the representatives will field questions and provide answers about Coatings, Marine Electrician, Marine Welder, and other trade skills of which our industry maintains a high demand for ensuring the highest quality and industry leadership in both ship repair and ship building.

Quality Assurance Audit Subcommittee Meeting

Wednesday, June 11, 2025, 12:00 PM

Thank you for your attention during the last subcommittee meeting. Your time and effort to review and edit the current audit checklist is greatly appreciated. I am looking forward to discussing the information on the revisions on June 11th so that we can continue with the review. Please bring all questions and ideas to discuss. Please remember this is to strengthen the port and continue to strengthen our quality.

Also, Luke has been working on the issues that were raised at the last meeting. The following items have been taken care of by Luke and are now live in the system.

  • Luke has fixed - In the QA Audit Database System, in the dropdown under Audits/Findings and then click on the "Download Audits Letters (From Last 24 Months)", only the first Audit Letter populates the header with the Date of Issue, Next Audit Date and Company Name and address. The rest are missing this information.
  • Luke has added this: The VSRA QA Audit Subcommittee, Chris Davenport, is requesting for you to provide the identity of the person inputting into the electronic VSRA 2025 Audit Review form. This will be helpful for him and others when they meet to discuss.
  • Luke has added this:  Additionally, the Subcommittee is requesting the option to highlight and bold text when making edits to the electronic VSRA 2025 Audit Form.
