Marine Electrician

MARINE ELECTRICIANS NEEDED The Electrician must possess knowledge, skills and abilities sufficient to install, modify, fabricate, and repair ships electrical, control, and instrumentation systems. The following is a list of typical work that the Electrician might be asked to perform: a. Lay out work from written and oral instructions. Utilize appropriate trade methods and processes to complete assigned tasks. Install wireways, cable racks, and associated cabling to interconnect ships power, communications, lighting, fire control, instrumentation and other electrical systems. Install cabinets, enclosures, controllers’ consoles, and other electrical equipment as integral parts of ship systems. b. Repair or replace damaged electrical components/assemblies. Troubleshoot faulty systems/circuitry to identify problem areas and initiates action to commence repairs. c. Work with test directors to test electrical systems using blueprints, technical manuals, and test procedures to ensure adequate operational performance in accordance with the specified guidelines. d. Coordinate and arrange for the work of several trades in connection with performing work from information received from technical work documents, blueprints, specifications, written and/or oral instructions. Must pass drug and background screenings Must be U.S. Citizen and at least 18 years of age EOE

Marine Electricians are typically responsible for assembling, installing, testing, and maintaining electrical wiring and equipment, as well as inspecting electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, or necessary repairs. Marine Electricians may also prepare sketches or follow blueprints to determine the location of wiring or equipment while ensuring compliance with safety codes
Education
Typically a High school diploma or GED is required, along with technical or post-secondary electrician's degree and license.
Qualifications
Typically, employers require:
- Minimum of five years verifiable work experience in the ship repair industry
- Basic trade specific knowledge, such as n understanding of power tools and their usage
- Knowledge of the principles, methods, and techniques used in the testing and repair of electrical components
- Reliability and dependability
- Ability to obtain a security clearance
