Navigation Systems Engineer

Subject Matter Expert (SME) – SME experience refers to prior ship integration engineering experience within a specific area or warfare system. The SMEs experience level shall include one or more for the following; - Ability to integrate the warfare system into the ship design, ship spaces, or ship building process. - Knowledge of the ship alteration process and contract data package engineering. - Knowledge of the ECP process, ship main process, system analysis and the ability to investigate warfare system improvements. - Knowledge of system installation and check-out of warfare systems; review of shipbuilder products; and ship specification development and upgrades. Job Requirements/skill sets: 10 years of General Warfare System Ship Integration Engineering Experience - General warfare system engineering experience refers tactical warfare systems such as sensors, weapons, command and control, communications, mission planning, intelligence, force planning, aviation, Intercommunications, Networks, Fiber and support systems for prosecuting the full spectrum of activities required in multi-warfare environments. Ship integration engineering includes review of ship engineering change proposals, development and review of ship drawings, HVAC analysis, power requirements analysis, development/review of space arrangement drawings, development/review of ship alterations, development/review of contract data package, analysis of topside arrangements, and warfare system tabulations. Warfare System Ship Integration Engineering Experience - Warfare system experience refers to prior ship integration engineering experience with the warfare system. The warfare system is considered to be all the tactical electronic systems on Ship. Prior ship integration engineering experience shall include one or more of the following: engineering to integrate the warfare system into the ship design, ship spaces, or ship building process; ship alteration process engineering; contract data package engineering, ECP process engineering, system analysis and engineering to investigate the impact of warfare system improvements on ship design; installation and ship check-out of warfare systems; review of shipbuilder products; and ship specification development and upgrades. Five (5) years of specific experience in Naval Ship Navigation Systems, Navigation Critical Distribution System (NCDS), Steering Control System (SCD), Scalable Integrated Bridge System (SIBS), and Electronic Charting Display and Information Systems – Navy (ECDIS-N). Security Requirements: U.S. citizenship required. Must meet and maintain eligibility for U.S. confidential clearance and be able to access military facilities, naval shipyards, and private shipyards.

Engineering Design workers are typically responsible for the generation of panel layouts, sub assemblies, schematics, wiring diagrams, wire run lists, component selection, etc. for electrical systems of large scale industrial machinery. The main tool for design documentation is AutoCAD.

Job Functions:
•Assure drawings and layouts are accurate, complete, and finished in a timely manner.
•Generation and maintenance of bill of materials and parts lists.
•Applying Engineering design techniques and utilize calculations in support of design/experimental activities.
•Develop electrical wiring schematics, sub-assembly drawings, and bills of material for control system design.
•Identify and solve technical engineering problems.
•Provide or assist in the creation of technical descriptions of operation, equipment checkout procedures, technical reports, user manuals and other documentation as required.
•Release components and system designs for manufacture of orders.
•Estimate man-hours required for tasks and report progress on assigned tasks.
•Provide plans, schedules, and estimates for technical programs.
•Work in conjunction with other groups to organize and plan assigned projects.
Education
A BSEE / BSET or Two Year Electrical Technical Degree is typically required.
Qualifications
1-5 years experience in CAD electrical design related to ship repair/maintenance using recent versions of AutoCAD
Must be able to read, interpret and produce engineering schematics, wiring diagrams, point-to-point drawings, and engineering fabrication drawings
Must be able to work aboard vessels, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces
Must be a team player
Must be flexible in reference to project priorities
Must be willing to assemble technical manuals
