Repairs and maintains in accordance with diagrams, sketches, operations manuals and manufactures specifications machinery and mechanical equipment such as air compressors, fire pumps, metal shears, band saws, drill presses and other production equipment.
Should be able to make a diagnosis of machinery and equipment to determine problems and make proper repairs, whether the equipment is manually, air hydraulically or electrically operated. Be capable of using measuring instruments such as rules calipers and micrometers. Have some experience in operation of power tools, lathes, drill presses, band saws, grinders and other equipment to be effective and efficient in repairing equipment.
Possesses some skill and experience in building maintenance and repairs including boilers. Experience in burning and welding would be helpful. In addition, knowledge and experience in temporary service going aboard navy vessels would be a plus.

Vision Requirements: The worker is required to have visual acuity to perform an activity such as: operating machines where the seeing job is at or within arm’s reach or performing mechanical or skilled trades tasks of a non-repetitive nature such as ones by electricians, technicians, service people, painters, mechanics, etc.
Unique/Additional Requirements: Should be able to climb on and around ships and walk to other yard areas and requires extended periods of standing and walking (75%). Inspections and work may require climbing ladders, working at heights, walking on scaffolding and observing co-workers using tools and equipment. Lifting/carrying tools and parts weighing up to 50 lbs. on frequent basis. Standing, bending, sitting, reaching, pushing, pulling, crouching, kneeling, handling, finger dexterity, feeling, eye/hand/foot coordination, seeing, hearing required. Selecting appropriate tools for jobs, as per trade classification. Works in tight, confined work spaces on board ship and is exposed to varied temperatures, wind, wet and humid conditions, fumes, odors and dust, vibrations from ship and hand tools, constant moving machinery, possible toxic and caustic chemicals.
