Systems Engineer

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND PURPOSE (Job Description) The IT Systems Engineer designs and implements computer systems on the NASSCO network according to established department and company policies, procedures and work instructions. They will work closely with all other members of the IT Department to provide available, stable, and secure computer systems. This position requires understanding and following standard procedures, escalating situations falling outside of these procedures to management. The Systems Engineer should have well-developed decision making, analytical and problem-solving skills, displaying the ability to provide solutions where they may not currently exist. They must possess excellent oral/written communication skills, be a self-starter, results-oriented with strong organizational ability and a high level of integrity. The Systems Engineer must be able to work independently, but also be a solid team player and contributor. Errors in work or actions should be contained within working unit or project. II.POSITION DEMANDS (Education/Experience/Skill Sets) •Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or other technical field; Associates degree in Computer Science or other technical field plus 2 years of relevant experience; or 5 years of relevant experience. •Microsoft or other certifications a plus •Knowledgeable and proficient with full suite of Microsoft products (Word, Excel, Visio, etc.) •Possess critical thinking and problem- solving ability. •Excellent communication skills both oral and written. •Be an accurate, flexible, fast learner with a consistent attention to detail and follow-up. •At least 2 years’ experience supporting MS Windows environment. •Be self-motivated and able to work with little or no supervision. •Must demonstrate a willingness to learn. •Ability to multi-task in a busy and changing work environment with critical deadlines. •US Citizenship is required Vision Requirements: The worker is required to have visual acuity to perform an activity such as: operating equipment where the seeing job is at or within arm’s reach or performing mechanical or skilled trades tasks of a non-repetitive nature such as ones by technicians, service people, etc. IV. WORKING RELATIONSHIPS Reports to the Network Manager. Interfaces with other IT groups (e.g. software, network, Help Desk, etc.) to specify appropriate solutions. V. PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES • Responsible for the installation, configuration and maintenance of computer servers for all operating systems, including Microsoft Windows Server and Linux (Red Hat Enterprise). • Perform regular system monitoring to ensure that the computer systems are available and secure. • Participate in ensuring all operating systems and software are patched to current versions according to company policy • Documents current and proposed systems using flowcharts, diagrams, and other tools. • Troubleshoot and resolve server and computer systems problems. • Participate in teams to discover IT business requirements and specify appropriate solutions. VIACCOUNTABILITY Responsible for maintaining the integrity and security of all computer systems according to established company policy and procedures and with the input of Security Analysts. Must follow documented change control procedures for audit purposes. Responsible for continuous improvement of processes and procedures to increase security and reliability with a goal to reduce the labor required to monitor and enforce those processes and procedures. UNIQUE/ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS Regular, reliable attendance on-site is an essential function of the job. Must be willing to work additional hours or nights and weekends as necessary to ensure that systems are operational at all core hours with minimal impact on end computer system users. Must be willing to participate in on call rotation. Must be able to lift 50lbs and work in tight spaces. A credit check will be required for this position. Engineering Design workers are typically responsible for the generation of panel layouts, sub assemblies, schematics, wiring diagrams, wire run lists, component selection, etc. for electrical systems of large scale industrial machinery. The main tool for design documentation is AutoCAD.

Job Functions:
•Assure drawings and layouts are accurate, complete, and finished in a timely manner.
•Generation and maintenance of bill of materials and parts lists.
•Applying Engineering design techniques and utilize calculations in support of design/experimental activities.
•Develop electrical wiring schematics, sub-assembly drawings, and bills of material for control system design.
•Identify and solve technical engineering problems.
•Provide or assist in the creation of technical descriptions of operation, equipment checkout procedures, technical reports, user manuals and other documentation as required.
•Release components and system designs for manufacture of orders.
•Estimate man-hours required for tasks and report progress on assigned tasks.
•Provide plans, schedules, and estimates for technical programs.
•Work in conjunction with other groups to organize and plan assigned projects.
Education
A BSEE / BSET or Two Year Electrical Technical Degree is typically required.
Qualifications
1-5 years experience in CAD electrical design related to ship repair/maintenance using recent versions of AutoCAD
Must be able to read, interpret and produce engineering schematics, wiring diagrams, point-to-point drawings, and engineering fabrication drawings
Must be able to work aboard vessels, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces
Must be a team player
Must be flexible in reference to project priorities
Must be willing to assemble technical manuals
