Installation Technician

Position Title: Installation Technician (I, II, III, IV) Work Location: Chesapeake, VA FLSA Status: Full-Time, Non-Exempt REQ#22_02106D Summary of duties – The Installation Tech (I, II, III, IV) possesses a basic understanding of NAVSEA installation processes and the use of common hand tools. Tasks are accomplished as assigned by the Installation Supervisor or under the supervision of a senior installation team member and in accordance with company work instructions. Periodically required to lift/move equipment up to and including 50 pounds. Additional duties and/or responsibilities of other positions may also be assigned for which qualifications are met. Specific description of duties: * Responsible for opening as well as closing cableways, cable trunks, and multi cable transits; transporting material/tools to and from the worksite; standing fire watch; painting; lagging; and assisting in weld preparation/fit up. * Must be familiar with systems removal and installation to include but not limited to: * HVAC ducting, piping etc. * Cabling (copper and fiber) * Equipment racks * Lockers/Furniture * Fiddle boards * Connection boxes * Power panels * Lighting * Antennas/Radomes * Foundations * Waveguide * Decking * Multi pin/Fiber Optic/RF and other type connectors * Cable tags/Wire markers * Problem Solving/Troubleshooting * Provide installation assistance during SOVT * Overtime is routinely required but not guaranteed. * Travel outside the local area may be required. * Perform any other assignments or tasks as needed or requested by management to assist in accomplishing the organization’s mission, objectives and goals. Education/Specialized Training: Level I: • HS diploma or GED and Apprenticeship, Associates degree or trade school certificate in related field and five (5) years related experience. Military schooling, depending on scope and relevance of training, may also suffice. • Non-degreed or non-Trade School graduates must have seven (7) years directly related technical experience in installation, modification, field change, operation, maintenance, testing, troubleshooting and or repair of various military combat systems. Level II: • HS diploma or GED and Apprenticeship, or Associates degree or Trade School certificate in related field with two (2) years related experience. Military schooling, depending on scope and relevance of training, may also suffice. • Non-degreed or non-Trade School graduates must have three years (3) technical experience in installation, modification, field change, operation, maintenance, testing, troubleshooting and or repair of various military combat systems. Level III: • HS diploma or GED and Apprenticeship, Associates degree or trade school certificate in related field and four (4) years related experience. Military schooling, depending on scope and relevance of training, may also suffice. • Non-degreed or non-Trade School graduates must have five (5) years technical experience in installation, modification, field change, operation, maintenance, testing, troubleshooting and or repair of various military combat systems. Level IV: • HS diploma or GED and Apprenticeship, Associates degree or trade school certificate in related field and five (5) years related experience. Military schooling, depending on scope and relevance of training, may also suffice. • Non-degreed or non-Trade School graduates must have seven (7) years directly related technical experience in installation, modification, field change, operation, maintenance, testing, troubleshooting and or repair of various military combat systems. Certifications/Licenses: • Cable-way certification • Fiber Optic Connector certification • Multi-pin Connector certification • Fire Watch certification Security Clearance: • Clearance up to Secret level may be required. Physical/Environmental Job Requirements: Physical requirements include the following: • Lifting/moving up to and including 50 pounds • Routinely climbing several flights of stairs • Performing tasks in confined spaces Our work is primarily onboard naval vessels that may include variables of physical activity, i.e. stooping, climbing, walking, etc. In performing these duties, you may be required to work outdoors or in the warehouse. You will experience temperature variations, extremely loud noises, and other physical hazards.
