Gas Free Mechanic

Colonna's Shipyard is looking to obtain experienced candidates within our Gas FreeĀ Department. We are pleased to accept resumes for 1st class Gas Free Mechanics for 1st and 2nd shifts. This is a full-time position with competitive pay, based on experience, and immediate work within our headquarters in Norfolk, VA. Responsibilities: Check tanks to make sure properly inspected for hazardous materials Ensure that the right equipment is on site for the task that needs to be accomplished. Remove contamination from tanks in a safe and efficient manner using shovels, squeegees, brooms, scrapers, hoses, water and solvent Sweeps up debris and sludge into buckets or wheelbarrows or down chutes Wash bilge's tanks: remove gas, water, and oil from vessels and fixing blocked pipes Open or help with the opening of deep well inspection covers in as safe manner Exercise proper procedures for confined spaces Will climb into tanks via vertical ladder or inclined ladder (average 50-60ft) Operator and maintain boilers at Gas Free shop Assist in clean up of oil spills Clean and dispose of hazardous and non hazardous materials, gas, sludge, oil, etc. throughout the shipyard Will prepare tank for cleaning and setting up lights, air hoses, and pumps. Setting up pumps requires pulling hoses to position and hook up to pump and slop tanks Qualifications: Must have 3+ years of shipboard Gas Free experience Must be able to work either 1st or 2nd shift Must be able to work overtime if requested Must have experience driving flatbeds, operating a vacuum truck, and daily cleaning of tanks Properly inspect tanks for hazardous materials, endure the proper equipment is on site so tasks may be accomplished Perform all gas free essential duties on all types of commercial and government vessels Clean driving and criminal record may be required to gain access into jobsites
