MTT PROGRAM ADVANCEMENT COORDINATOR

Overview:

The Virginia Ship Repair Association is seeking a PROGRAM ADVANCEMENT COORDINATOR in support of the Marine Trade Training (MTT). The MTT Program Advancement Coordinator will enlist subject matter experts to analyze and observe existing Marine Trade Training courses for process improvements and lead implementation of program expansion.

About the Marine Trade Training Program:

The VSRA Marine Trade Training (MTT) Program is the region’s premier entry-level skilled trades training initiative. Currently hosting Level I courses in coatings, electrical, outside machinist, pipefitting, sheet metal, and welding, the MTT program is industry-driven and certified by VSRA as a regionally accredited program. Program expansion to additional skill levels will ultimately result in established career pathways for skilled trades workers in ship repair.

MTT courses are 2- to 3- weeks in length and provide students with the foundational skills needed to enter rewarding career pathways in ship repair and shipbuilding skilled trades. MTT courses are held at each of the region’s three community colleges (Tidewater, Thomas Nelson, and Paul D. Camp), and are executed in partnership with Virginia’s Community College System and the Community College Workforce Cooperative.

Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Attend, observe, and analyze existing MTT courses to gain full understanding of the program and lead the effort to optimize MTT student learning.
  • Survey MTT students, instructors, and employers to inform program improvement recommendations.
  • Strategically survey VSRA Membership to determine industry needs for expansion of MTT program offerings to additional trades and / or additional levels of training.
  • Assist with execution of strategies to expand usage of the MTT program to additional companies and grow the potential student pool.
  • Develop and maintain course credentialing standards.
  • Identify and coordinate Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) for each MTT trade and work with curriculum developers to review, develop, and improve course materials.
  • Maintain program budgets and seek additional funding streams, as necessary, to assist with course expansion.
  • Provide administrative support, as needed, to VSRA events and functions.

Location:

  • This is an in-office position located in downtown Norfolk, VA
  • Frequent regional travel to training sites required

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Publisher.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, both in writing and verbally.
  • Ability to function highly in a fast-paced, team-focused environment while eagerly serving in support of a dedicated Association Membership.
  • Proficiency with program implementation, improvement, and planning.
  • Strong ability to build and maintain partnerships and industry relationships.
  • Ability to research, compile, and summarize information.
  • Ability to take direction, develop plans, and prioritize tasks.
  • Ability and willingness to learn new software, website interfaces, and tasks as needed.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with reviewing / developing technical curriculum for adult learners.
  • Working knowledge of the Ship Repair Industry.
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience.
