DEVELOPMENT AND PROGRAM MANAGER

Overview:

The Virginia Ship Repair Association is seeking an experienced DEVELOPMENT AND PROGRAM MANAGER to oversee execution of the organization’s branding, marketing, and communications strategy while also enhancing training and workforce initiatives to ensure the workforce needs of the Association’s ship repair and shipbuilding members are met. The Development and Program Manager will oversee outreach initiatives through management of the VSRA Outreach Coordinator.

Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Develop and execute strategies for increasing general awareness of the Virginia Ship Repair Association, Virginia Ship Repair Foundation, and ship repair industry.
  • Maintain strong partnerships and strategic relationships across the Hampton Roads region with educational and community organizations – including regional school systems, community colleges, and the Hampton Roads Workforce Council – in support of the ship repair industry.
  • Represent the Association and Foundation through service on a wide variety of relevant regional boards and advisory panels.
  • Assist the VSRA President with development of briefings, white papers, presentations, and other materials that communicate the mission and goals of the organization.
  • Maintain relationships with marketing and media partners to enhance the branding and image of the Association and Foundation and execute strategies to promote the ship repair industry and skilled trades careers.
  • Oversee workforce development & recruitment events, such as shipyard tours, Industry Days, and career expositions, and identify additional opportunities / events for participation.
  • Generate income for the Association and Foundation through development of comprehensive sponsorship packages for events and initiatives and assist with securing event sponsors.
  • Oversee management of Marine Trade Training program expansion, including development of related programs in support of ship repair and shipbuilding skilled trades.
  • Serve as the primary staff liaison for the Virginia Ship Repair Foundation, the 501(c)(3) educational non-profit arm of the organization, maintaining the Foundation budget, strategic plan, and committee management.

 Location:

  • This is an in-office position located in downtown Norfolk, VA.
  • Some regional travel to events, advisories, meetings, and conferences required.

 Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent and more than 2 years of experience in workforce development, project management, non-profit marketing / communications, or related fields.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Publisher.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Strong ability to communicate clearly, both in writing and verbally, including experience with grant writing, copy writing, and development of marketing / PR strategies (such as press releases).
  • Ability to highly function in a management role within a fast-paced, team-focused environment while eagerly serving in support of a dedicated Association Membership.
  • Desire to enthusiastically interact with the Association Membership, Community partners, and general public (including students, teachers, community leaders, and so forth) while representing the Association, Foundation, and Ship Repair industry as a whole.
  • Ability to oversee program development / project management in a concise, organized manner.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of the ship repair industry.
  • Ability to develop, manage, and maintain program budgets and financial records.
  • Ability and willingness to learn new software, website interfaces, and tasks as needed.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience with copy editing & professional writing.
  • Experience with skilled trades training workforce development in the Hampton Roads region, and existing relationships with relevant community / educational partners.
  • Proficiency in various Adobe programs, including Acrobat Reader, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and Captivate.
