Summary Position is responsible for service, repair, and testing of various actuated valve assemblies both in our shop and in the field. Shop work includes the repair, inspection, and assembly of automated equipment associated with Navy ships. In addition, Set-up machinery and perform complex machining on components/pieces with conventional machinery, such as lathes, boring mills, shapers, and grinders. Responsibilities: • Disassembles and Troubleshoot, Repair valve / actuator assemblies • Repair Machinist Experience. Skill to operate machinery; Lathes, Milling Machines, Drill press, VTL Lathe. • Use of measuring devices (rulers, micrometers, dial indicators, depth mics, etc.) • Perform functional testing of actuators and valves • Conduct valve hydro • Performs work/inspection using shop processes • Assures compliance to company QMS • Report noncompliance issues • Complies with all safety/PPE requirements Qualifications: • Must be able to read and comprehend blueprints, drawings and other technical trade related documents. • Mechanical ability, required to perform various projects, per drawings, sketches, and verbal or written instructions • Skilled in the selection, set-up and operation of the appropriate machine tool(s) for a given type of work. • Manual machine operation experience • In-Place machinists experience preferred • Experience operating precision machine tools • Use of precision measuring equipment. • Must be able to work effectively with others • Must be a steady, reliable worker Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills • Outside Machinist: 3 years (Preferred) • Inside Machinist: 3 to 5 yrs. An outside machinist installs and repairs equipment, sets up and handles manufacturing machinery and ensures that production equipment is adequate and functional. The machinist also operates machines manually or through control mechanisms, inspects equipment and materials and communicates with co-workers, subordinates and superiors.

An Outside Machinist's typical duties include:
- Disassembling or dismantling valves or pumps, inspecting for wear and assessing replacement need, then re-assembling
- Installing stanchions and hand rails for gratings and ladders
- Installing piping for steam, exhaust, suction, discharge, heating, and/or refrigeration
- Dismantling, inspecting and repairing deck machinery, main engines, generator governors, and/or turbines
- Running horizontal and vertical lines for alignment of engines
- Overhauling and repairing refrigerating machinery
Education
Most outside machinist careers require a high school diploma, as well as training in vocational schools, related on-the-job experience, and/or an associate's degree.

Outside machinists usually need one or two years of on-the-job experience and informal training with experienced workers. A recognized apprenticeship program may be available.
Qualifications
Previous work-related skill, knowledge, or experience is typically required. Outside Machinists generally have a broad background in diesel repair and maintenance.
