The position will be responsible for the fabrication and assembly (to include bonding) of metallic and composite (CFRP) structural components supporting the company’s unmanned undersea vehicle project. Serving customers in more than 30 countries, HII provides design, autonomy, manufacturing, testing, operations and sustainment of unmanned systems, including unmanned underwater vehicles (UUVs) and unmanned surface vessels (USVs). - Candidate must have the ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, technical manuals, structure and repair manuals as well as understand symbols, flags, and general notes. - Candidate must have experience working with precision measuring instruments, micrometers, calipers, tape measures and standard scales. - Candidate must also have experience with match drilling processes on metallic and composite parts. - Position may require candidate to obtain/maintain Confidential level clearance, but not required to start. - Lays out, fabricates and assembles a variety of standard and nonstandard major jigs, fixtures, tool masters, master tooling gauges and related tooling involving compound angles and complex contours where the establishment and coordination to exacting tolerances of numerous tooling holes and reference points between several planes are required. - Performs measurement surveys using photogrammetry, total stations, laser tracker or other electronic 3-D instruments. - Plans work to be performed and determines methods and sequence of operations working from tool design drawings or own designs. - Sets up and operates optical instruments to check overall and detailed alignment, fit or adjustment of assemblies. Develops and designs holding devices, jig and fixture details. - Prepares operational sequences and shop drawings covering parts fabrication and assembly to be. - May monitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical processes or other control procedures. What you will be doing... Performs a variety of duties in the electronic, mechanical, electromechanical, and/or optical areas. Constructs, troubleshoots, calibrates, adjusts, tests, diagnoses, and maintains equipment, components, devices, or systems. Works from schematics, engineering drawings and written or verbal instructions. Operates related equipment; conducts tests and reports data in prescribed format. Performs calibration and alignment checks; makes adjustments, modifications, and replacements as directed; prepares prescribed compounds and solutions. Exclude technicians working in production or quality assurance. What we are looking for... - AA Degree in related discipline or other 2 year technical degree in related discipline and 0 years experience; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 2 years related experience. - Must be able to obtain and maintain a government clearance Bonus points for... - Candidate preferred to have demonstrated experience with metrology and interpretation of metrology reports. - Prior aviation structural assembly and maintenance experience with metallic, composite structures and aviation fastening systems is a plus. Physical Requirements May require working in an industrial or shipboard environment. Normally not required to lift more than 40 pounds higher than three feet above feet/floor level. May encounter extremes of temperature, pollution, humidity, noise, and other environmental factors while collecting data, observing performance of task teams.
