HII Mission Technologies is actively seeking Designer 2 candidates to join our awesome IPS team! As a Designer 2, you will work with an amazing group of people creating designs for our ships! This position is located at our NET Center in Hampton VA. This is a full time position with some flexibility with the in office hours. The required hours to be in the office is from 9AM - 2PM Monday - Friday. Travel is 10% - 20% for this position.
What You Will Do
Designs components or portions of systems and modifies existing designs to develop or improve products and facilitate manufacturing operations.
Utilizes computer-aided design equipment and/or graphic tools such as, CAD, CAM or CATIA.
Gathers information, makes studies, computes calculations, and prepares original rough layouts, sketches to present design proposal.
Coordinates design criteria with engineering, manufacturing, tooling, material, and planning group such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials, and contractual specifications.
Exclude classifications in which incumbents predominantly perform drafting assignments.
What You Must Have
AA or other 2 year technical degree in related discipline and 1 year related experience. HS + 3 years related experience may be substituted for AA degree.
AutoCAD Experience
Experience using Microsoft Suite
Shipbuilding Experience
Electrical Designer Experience
Ability to obtain / maintain a Confidential Clearance

Physical Requirements
Ability to work in shipboard environment. Able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes. The exact weight requirements will be determined by the specific job. Able to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, shipboard, shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces. Able to perform other duties as required. May involve high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions, working aloft or over the sides of vessels, riding ships at sea for extended periods. May require the ability to work while wearing a respirator. Travel may be required within and outside of the continental United States.
