Position Title: Engineering Specialist I/General Engineer Work Location: Indian Head, MD FLSA Status: Full-Time, Exempt REQ#23_030702 Summary of duties – This is a mid-level engineer who supports the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Indian Head Division (NSWC IHD). This is an on-site NSWC-IHD position. This individual will provide Chemical and Biological (CB) support for the R23 CBR Protection and Integration Branch, Shipboard Protection Group. Specific description of duties – Four (4) years of experience to work within a project team in the design, construction, testing and operation of advanced ventilation systems. Develop designs with CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD). Ability to participate with project teams and be able to manage specific tasks with that team effort. Understanding and ability to track funding. Maintain auditable records of all transactions and provide updated inventory reports to program sponsor on a quarterly basis and an annual report. Initiate and answer phone calls, schedule equipment pick-ups / drop-offs, and participate with visitors. Carry out administrative duties such as typing, copying, scanning, filing, etc. Exhibit polite and professional communication via phone, email, etc. Maintain cleanliness of all areas within the workspace. Travel outside the local area is required. Frequent travel is required within this position. This is not a Telework position. Possession of an active State Driver’s License is required. Perform any other assignments or tasks as needed or requested by management to assist in accomplishing the organization’s mission, objectives and goals. Education / Specialized training – B.S. in Mechanical, Electrical and or General Engineering with experience post-graduation in an engineering related position (government or private industry employment). 4 years combined technical experience in research, development, design, integration, acquisition, and/or sustainment activities and project work including maintenance, repair testing, product improvements. CAD / AutoCAD familiarization. Must be eligible for forklift operator’s license. General knowledge of shipboard alterations desired. Good written and oral communication skills Must be able to work in a team environment and provide regular reporting of progress and efforts. Working knowledge of Word, Excel and Microsoft Office Suite. Must be familiar with NAVSEA SCDs and TEMPALT Process. Security Clearance SECRET Clearance Physical/Environmental Job Requirements – Physical requirements may include: Ability to be able to walk reasonable distances (up to ½ mile one way) to meet with customers or other company personnel in the execution of job functions. Ability to be able to lift and carry up to 35 pounds. Outside and inside working conditions in a lab at NSWCIHD, office space (sponsors) and onboard Navy Ships as required Suggested/Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Good Oral and Written Communication Skills Good Team Player and willingness to take on new responsibilities. Ability to work independently but meet timelines and stay aware of tasking changes. Will require own transportation to work. Engineering Design workers are typically responsible for the generation of panel layouts, sub assemblies, schematics, wiring diagrams, wire run lists, component selection, etc. for electrical systems of large scale industrial machinery. The main tool for design documentation is AutoCAD.

Job Functions:
•Assure drawings and layouts are accurate, complete, and finished in a timely manner.
•Generation and maintenance of bill of materials and parts lists.
•Applying Engineering design techniques and utilize calculations in support of design/experimental activities.
•Develop electrical wiring schematics, sub-assembly drawings, and bills of material for control system design.
•Identify and solve technical engineering problems.
•Provide or assist in the creation of technical descriptions of operation, equipment checkout procedures, technical reports, user manuals and other documentation as required.
•Release components and system designs for manufacture of orders.
•Estimate man-hours required for tasks and report progress on assigned tasks.
•Provide plans, schedules, and estimates for technical programs.
•Work in conjunction with other groups to organize and plan assigned projects.
Education
A BSEE / BSET or Two Year Electrical Technical Degree is typically required.
Qualifications
1-5 years experience in CAD electrical design related to ship repair/maintenance using recent versions of AutoCAD
Must be able to read, interpret and produce engineering schematics, wiring diagrams, point-to-point drawings, and engineering fabrication drawings
Must be able to work aboard vessels, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces
Must be a team player
Must be flexible in reference to project priorities
Must be willing to assemble technical manuals
