Production Planners and Schedulers in the Nuclear Maritime Operations group support a wide variety of different functional areas at Newport News Shipyard (NNS). At NNS, HII builds the most advanced ships in the world, nuclear powered Aircraft Carriers and Submarines, and our engineers are integral in that effort. As part of the HII Nuclear Maritime Operations group, our professionals have access to a rare and unique professional development program that is intended to prepare our employees for life long success with our HII affiliates supporting different Department of Energy sites and contracts around the country. What You Will Do Plans, prepares, issues and controls production schedules and coordinates with material requirements to ensure a controlled flow of approved materials timed to meet production requirements. Advises management of the status of work in progress, material availability, and potential production problems to ensure that personnel, equipment, materials and services are provided as needed. Schedules equipment and personnel, confirms material supply and demands, prepares work orders or purchase requests for the production or purchase of components or parts based on a master production schedule, shop load and inventory requirements. Coordinates interdepartmental activity with quality assurance, manufacturing, purchasing, engineering, inventory control, traffic, etc.; schedules and expedites the movement of parts by means of move orders, stock transfers and requests for shipping orders. What You Must Have Candidate must have 3 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 1 year relevant experience with Masters in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 7 years relevant experience. Candidate must be proficient in using general computer software and hardware systems including computerized scheduling systems. Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a confidential security clearance. Candidate must be a U.S. citizen. Bonus Points For ... An Apprentice Certificate or graduation from Navy Nuclear Power School can be substituted for Bachelor's degree. A relevant professional certification can be substituted for a Bachelor's Degree. Certification Equivalency: PMP, CPIM and AICP. Strong communication skills and experience with Microsoft Office, SAP, manufacturing, planning and network scheduling techniques is preferred. Knowledge of MS Office, COGNOS, SAP, and other software with experience with Naval shipbuilding and maintenance processes and procedures are beneficial. Physical Requirements May require working in an office, industrial, shipboard, or laboratory environment. Capable of climbing ladders and tolerating confined spaces and extreme temperature variances. The majority of the responsibilities will be associated with computer use. Good sight and the full use of both hands for computer input are essential.
