Summary of duties – AEA position:  at the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Indian Head Division (NSWCIHD). This position is physically located at the Government Facilities at NSWC Indian Head, MD. This individual will provide Chemical and Biological (CB) support to the Navy Acquisition Engineering Agent (AEA) for Chemical and Biological Detection including system acquisition transition, lifecycle installation, system trouble shooting /repair and fielding lifecycles of shipboard CB detection for new and current detection systems to include Joint Biological Point Detection System (JBPDS), Enhanced Maritime Biological Detection (EMBD), Improved Point Detection System – Lifecycle Replacement (IPDS-LR), Aerosol and Vapor Chemical Agent Detector (AVCAD), Joint Biological Tactical Defense System (JBTDS) and Joint Chemical Agent Detector Solid Liquid Adaptor (JCAD SLA) 

 

Specific description of duties:

 

  • Support as the CB Detection AEA with the development and coordination of processes and procedures for acquisition transition of new CB detectors into the fleet to include system acceptance, legacy LRU issues and resolutions, and
  • Support CB Detection AEA in the area of developing proposals/cost estimates/statements of work to secure external and internal funding for work to be executed.
  • Support the CB Detection AEA with new and current system IPTs, future system testing requirements, and all required testing events.
  • Support to the CB Detection AEA on miscellaneous documentation, standards, and training as required.
  • Perform any other assignments or tasks as needed or requested by management to assist in accomplishing the organization’s mission, objectives and goals.

 

Education / Specialized training –

 

  • B/S Engineering Degree
  • Must have a minimum of Four (4) to Six (6) years of experience in shipboard systems maintenance, test and evaluation, field support and training.
  • Must have familiarity with the Navy 3M system similar DoD related for maintenance, test instrumentation requirements analysis, procurement, configuration and operation including computer-based data acquisition systems desired.
  • Ability to use advanced engineering/scientific techniques, requirements, methods, sources, and procedures in a specialty area.
  • Knowledge of analytical, evaluative, and problem-solving techniques necessary to perform professional scientific/engineering work.
  • Ability to plan and coordinate individual assignments to meet project goals.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • This work requires the employees to drive a vehicle. A valid state driver’s license is required.
  • Detailed knowledge of biochemical engineering and methods for assaying chemical and biological agents as well as their interaction with military materials and decontaminate solutions.
  • Knowledge and familiarity with the physical and chemical properties of chemical/biological warfare agents/simulants.
  • Ability to apply sound scientific principles to identify sponsor needs around Chemical & Biological Defense and propose novel solutions.
  • In-depth knowledge of scientific concepts.
  • Ability to work as a productive member of a team.

  

Security Clearance – Secret Clearance required.

 

Additional Skills

 

This position works under the general and technical direction of the Force Damage Control Officer who provides a broad policy guidance and overall objectives through discussions or written objectives. This position is specific to the CBRND contract therefore these additional skills and notes apply:

  • Exhibits strong reporting and administrative writing skills.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Demonstrates strong organization and communication skills.
  • Demonstrates experience with Navy Supply or similar warehouse operations.
  • Understanding of US Navy Planned Maintenance System (PMS)
  • Ability to be flexible with workload demands and changing requirements.
  • Self-motivated, high-energy person with excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Ability to be flexible with workload demands and changing requirements.
  • Ability to travel to overseas or domestic locations as required.
  • Proficient in the use of databases and spreadsheets

Physical Requirements and Conditions  

Working Conditions: Work will be inside in an office environment, in warehouse lab environment, onboard ship and outside in areas that may be hot, damp, cold, drafty, or poorly lighted. Ability to travel 25% of the time to support the Fleet as required.

Physical Conditions: Incumbent may be required to stand on hard surfaces for extended periods of time. Work may involve bending, stooping, and working in tiring and sometimes uncomfortable positions. May lift and carry items that weigh up to 70 lbs. The heavier items are moved with material handling equipment, or with assistance from other workers.
