CBR Technician/Field Engineer I

Position Title: CBR Technician/Field Engineer I Work Location: Chesapeake, VA FLSA Status: Full Time, Non-exempt REQ#23_101903 Summary of duties – The CBR Technician will support the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Indian Head Division (NSWC IHD) and or the EOD Technology Division (NSWC IHEODTD) at NSWC Norfolk, VA. This individual will provide technical, training and administrative support to but not limited to: Readiness Assist Visits (RAV); CBRD Technical Warrant Holder (TWH). CBRD detection equipment; Radiological Containment (RADCON); documentation for operational maintenance & training efforts; sustainment to chemical and biological detection consumables; sustainment to Collective Protection System (CPS) and sustainment to Visit, Board, Search and Seizure (VBSS)/Enhanced Counter-Proliferation Capability (eCPC) onboard U.S. Navy vessels. Specific description of duties – • Assisting the Government Subject Matter Expert and/ or the assigned contractor CBR Technician in: conducting Collective Protection System (CPS), CB Detection, Decontamination, Next Generation Diagnostic System (NGDS), eCPC/VBSS, and RADIAC assessments during CBR RAVs onboard deploying ships; providing necessary consumables to ensure ships are deployment ready; conducting crew CBR system training; providing distant support on all CBRD related matters; and following-up with the ships 60 days Post-RAV to document and update equipment status. • Assist in troubleshooting and repairing Improved Point Detection System Lifecycle Replacement (IPDS LR) units, retrieving data from ships, maintaining records of IPDS lab functions, maintaining inventories and shipping documents of all IPDS detection units repaired and shipped to/from lab. • Support the Radiological Mobile Survey and Remediation Team lead and the assigned contractor CBR Technician to conduct shipboard RADCON assessments during the RAV, conduct Fleet Contamination Technician training, and update the ship’s RADCON book. • May provide technical support, coordinate, develop and update CBRD operational documentation across all TWH commodity areas to include but not limited to Naval Ship Technical Manuals (NSTMs), Security Classification Guides, and input to Naval Warfare Development Command (NDWC), Joint Publications, and NATO CBRD publications. • May provide technical support the development of CBRD interactive operational and maintenance training tools for TWH fleet training efforts to include CBRD interactive training guide development, shipboard training video development, and transition / fielding of developed tools to the fleet. • May serve as the liaison between the CBRD TWH and the Surface Warfare School Command (SWSC) to support fleet schoolhouse training requirements. • May provide technical support to the CBR TWH on miscellaneous documentation, standards, and training data calls as required. • Full time position, some overtime and travel possible. • Performs any other assignments or tasks as needed or requested by management to assist in accomplishing the organization’s mission, objectives and goals. Education / Specialized training – • Four to Six years of experience in shipboard system maintenance, test and evaluation, field support and training. • Two years of experience of applicable professional experience with operations and repair of Navy CBRD equipment with emphasis on detection, decontamination and collective protection. • High School diploma or GED mandatory. • Must have or be eligible for forklift operator’s license. • Experience with the Navy 3M system for maintenance, test instrumentation requirements analysis, procurement, configuration and operation including computer-based data acquisition systems. • Training certifications or equivalent experience in the following preferred: forklift driver, web-based inventory management (CMRPO), HAZMAT shipping, CBRD shipboard operations, radiation material and transportation (RAM). • Must be familiar with NAVSEA SCDs and TEMPALT Process. Security Clearance – • Secret Clearance Required Physical/Environmental Job Requirements – if applicable Physical requirements include the following: Work will be inside in an office environment, in warehouse lab environment, onboard ship and outside in areas that may be hot, damp, cold, drafty, or poorly lighted. Incumbent is occasionally exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes, bruises, abrasions, falls, and injury from falling stock. Work may require wearing protective clothing such as hard hats and steel-toed shoes. Incumbent often stands on hard surfaces for extended periods of time. Work involves bending, stooping, and working in tiring and sometimes uncomfortable positions. May have to lift and carry items that weigh up to 70 lbs.
