As a Mastertradesperson at HII you will provide task support by install, operate, maintain maintenance repairs and technical support on equipment at the Newport News Shipyard!
What You Will Be Doing
Installs, operates, maintains, repairs and modifies equipment. Performs a variety of maintenance and technical support on products such as equipment, integrated systems and subsystems at customer and/or field locations. Analyzes and evaluates products and related performance. Troubleshoots and diagnoses malfunctions to eliminate problem in minimum time. Installs, upgrades and removes products ensuring coordinative engineering field change. Maintains effective customer communications and relations. May provide onsite training of customer support personnel. Applies understanding of production and processes to assignments. Performs a variety of complicated tasks. May assist in the development and use technical documents including controlled work packages, formal work processes and procedures, test documents, reports and task or trip reports. Performs duties outside of specialty in order to complete installation or work assignment.
What You Must Have
- High School education, or Trade School or equivalent, and 2 years of related experience.
- Must provide own hand tools as designated per trades specialty.
- Experienced and able to obtain SMAW welding certifications.
- Able to pass a general and specific knowledge exam on welder workmanship.
- Interpret drawings and other weld specific documentation.
- Able to follow instructions/procedures. Recognize, set up, and operate hand and power tools common to the welding trade.
Bonus Points For Having
- Have high-level skills of specialty trades functions and tools.
- Provide onsite training of customer support personnel.
- Able to identify shipboard systems and component location based on ship’s structure.
- Pipe welding experience a plus but not necessary.
- Able to navigate Naval ships.
- Able to use technical documents including controlled work packages, formal work processes and procedures and capture OQE.
- prefer technical/professional certificates.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes. The exact weight requirements will be determined by the specific job, but no less than 30 lbs. Able to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces. Able to perform other duties as required which may involve high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions, working aloft or over the sides of vessels. May ride ships at sea for extended periods. May require wearing a respirator. Travel may be required within and outside of the continental United States.
