Structural Welder/Combo Responsibilities
· Read & Interpret blueprints, and work orders for the job, and layout specifications, using jigs, welding torches, and hand tools.
· Plan details of working procedure and tools and material requirements.
· Fabricate equipment by cutting, burning, and welding various metals.
· Repair equipment by using welding techniques and appropriate welding equipment - weld components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions; FCAW, GMAW, SMAW, et cetera.
· Clean and prepare surfaces to be welded. Sets up, assembles, and tracks weld parts.
· Build up worn or defective surfaces.
· Use burning equipment to dismantle assemblies and to cut material to size and shape.
· Keep equipment and work area clean and orderly.
· Must be able to pass ABS & NAVSEA certification.
· Work involves varying degrees of precision and control where damage could be considerable.
· Attention and care required to prevent injury to others when performing maintenance work.
· May be required to lift and/or carry equipment/objects greater than 50 lbs.
· Typical environment found in the shipyard and ship repair industry.
