Business Analyst

Job Description: This candidate will support the design, development, and maintenance of an enterprise application as a non-developer member of the software development team. This person will also be responsible for analyzing data flows, resolving data reporting issues and making necessary improvements. This position will also be responsible for troubleshooting functionality issues and providing end-user training.

Job Requirements/skillsets:

  • Co-administrates database utilizing Microsoft Access front end and SQL backend.
  • Manages database permissions and grants/removes user access as prudent or when directed via Check-In, Check-Out, or Transfer Sheets
  • Collaborates with upper management and end users to identify problems and define new processes
  • Will be expected to achieve a working knowledge of all aspects of QED National Planning Activity (NPA) which includes: Planning, Logistics, Finance, QA, Training, and Ship Checking
  • Tasks IT professionals to ensure proper DevOps completion which involves writing detailed User Stories; documenting bugs and providing steps to reproduce; assigning risk, prioritizing, and managing developer workload; working with developers to understand DevOps, answer questions, and clarify requirements; minor code debugging; performing quality assurance; and ensuring work meets requirements.
  • Drafts emails detailing new features and bug fixes.
  • Undertakes special projects when tasked by management or otherwise autonomously to promote innovation and advancement
  • Creates daily, weekly, and monthly reports
  • Performs automation via Microsoft Excel VBA and otherwise improves report generation, design, and functionality
  • Authors/revises Quality Management Systems (QMS) Processes
  • Authors training guides and occasionally conducts in-person and online training
  • Demonstrated expertise with Microsoft Excel and Visual Basic for Applications (VBA)
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of Microsoft Access and PowerPoint
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and define problems, collect data, and develop solutions
  • Must have good written communication, interpersonal, problem-solving, analytical, mathematical, and organizational skills
  • Must be effective at communicating with both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Some working knowledge of development environments, platforms, and technology
  • Preferred, experience as a Business Analyst on IT/software project team
  • Preferred, experience in documenting agile work items like Epics, Features, and User Stories
  • Preferred, experience in software requirements documentation
  • Preferred, experience with US Navy surface maintenance availability planning and execution
  • Superior organization, discipline, and attention to detail
  • Be able to continuously learn new information as the industry rules and regulations change
  • Have a strong work ethic
  • Must be self-starter and require very little direct supervision
  • Physical ability to climb ladders, transit decks and perform work on Navy vessels and the harsh environments found in shipboard compartments.
  • Ability to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes. The exact weight requirements will be determined by the specific job, but no less than 30 lbs.

Education Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree in a related field from an accredited university or college.

Security Clearance/Naval Facility Access:  U.S. citizenship required. Must meet and maintain eligibility for U.S. Secret Clearance and be able to access military facilities, naval shipyards, and private shipyards.
