Position Title: Electronic Technician III

Summary of duties – Electronic Tech III must possess minimum higher educational requirements, a thorough understanding of electricity / electronics along with accelerated wiring skills. Must also be comprehensively familiar with installation processes, the use of common / specialty hand tools, and the use of general-purpose test equipment. Tasks are accomplished as assigned by the Installation Supervisor and in accordance with company work instructions / NAVSEA standard items. Periodically required to lift/move equipment up to and including 50 pounds. Additional duties and / or responsibilities of other positions may also be assigned for which qualifications are met to include Installation Supervisor on routine or low risk installations.
Specific description of duties –
Also must be extremely familiar with systems removal and installation to include but not limited to:
- HVAC ducting, piping etc
- Cabling (copper and fiber)
- Equipment racks
- Lockers / Furniture
- Fiddle boards
- Connection boxes
- Power panels
- Lighting
- Antennas / Radomes
- Foundations
- Waveguide
- Decking
- Multi pin / Fiber Optic / RF and other type connectors
- Cable tags / Wire markers
- Problem Solving / Troubleshooting
- Provide installation assistance during SOVT
- All overtime to be approved in advance by the COR
- OCONUS and CONUS Travel will be required
- Perform any other assignments or tasks as needed or requested by management to assist in accomplishing the organization’s mission, objectives and goals.
Education / Specialized training –
- High School diploma or GED mandatory
- Associates degree or Bachelor's degree in relatable electrical / electronic field with three years practical hands on experience. Military schooling, depending on scope and relevance of training, may also suffice.
- Non-degreed personnel may qualify, depending on depth of electrical / electronic knowledge and experience, however must have a minimum of five years technical experience in installation, modification, field change, systems operation, maintenance, testing, troubleshooting and or repair of various military combat systems.
- Experience with electronic test equipment such as: Digital Multi-meters and Oscilloscopes
- Experience in advanced electronics trouble shooting
- Experience and a working knowledge of wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical documentation.
- Knowledge of the operation and mechanics of the shipboard Damage Control and the Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Detection Systems.
- Ability to travel up to 50% of the time - CONUS and OCONUS
- Must have or be eligible for forklift operator’s license.
Security Clearance –
- Must have or be eligible for a secret security clearance.
Certification / Licenses (as required for the task being performed)
- Cableway certification
- Fire watch certification
- Multi-pin connector certification
- Fiber Optic connector certification
- Possession of a valid State Driver’s License is required
Additional Skills and Other Notes -
This position is specific to the CBRND contract therefore these additional skills and notes apply. Duties include the installation, repair, maintenance and technical support of Biological Detection equipment installed on Navy ships. The staff member will support the Navy R22 Biological Detection Program Lead (PL) with specialized technical support and logistical expertise.
- Security Clearance – Secret Clearance required.
- Exhibits strong reporting and administrative writing skills.
- Demonstrates proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)
- Demonstrates strong organization and communication skills.
- Demonstrates experience with Navy Supply or similar warehouse operations.
- Knowledge of Navy Damage Control equipment.
- Familiarity with FedEx and DLA shipping procedures.
- Training certifications or equivalent experience in the following preferred: web-based inventory management (CMPRO); HAZMAT shipping; DRMO.
- Perform Installation, scheduled & unscheduled maintenance, and periodic testing of fielded Biological Detection systems
- Strong ability to diagnose/troubleshoot electronic/mechanical equipment and return equipment to a fully operational status
- Receive, store, issue and inventory parts as directed
- Understanding of US Navy Planned Maintenance System (PMS)
- Ability to be flexible with workload demands and changing requirements.
- Demonstrated quick responsiveness to urgent tasking and an inherent ability to reassess and reprioritize activities based on client needs is a plus.
- Ability to identify systematic problem trends and/or recurring quality issues and provide feedback to program management
- Self-motivated, high-energy person with excellent verbal and written communications skills.
- Experience working complex, multi-faceted, time urgent projects a plus
- Ability to travel to overseas or domestic locations as required.
- Proficient in the use of databases and spreadsheets
- Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs
- Sole US Citizenship with the eligibility to obtain and maintain DOD Secret Security Clearance and to obtain Department of Homeland Security Suitability.
- Minimum Experience required of 2-6 years for technical work
Physical/Environmental Job Requirements –
Physical requirements include the following:
- Lifting/moving up to and including 50 pounds
- Routinely climbing several flights of stairs
- Performing tasks in confined spaces
The work will primarily be conducted at BLDG X-132 at NAVSTA Norfolk, VA. However, may require occasional visits aboard Navy Ships.
