ENGINEERING READINESS ASSIST TEAM (ERAT) LEADER – NORFOLK, VA

We are currently seeking two experienced Engineering Readiness Assist Team (ERAT) Leaders with steam and/or diesel engine expertise to join the team in our Norfolk, VA Field Office. The ERAT Leader will assist ships in developing sound engineering practices and good material condition which leads to successful Inspection Surveys (INSURVs), Light off Assessments (LOAs), and Equipment Operational Capabilities (EOCs).
The ERAT Leader is expected to: provide sailor centric deck plate training assessments, reporting, analysis, recommendations, fixes and post-action reporting with crews as they prepare for major evolutions, certifications, and inspections; identify performance, operational weaknesses through an assessment; then provide training to correct those identified weaknesses and improve operational readiness for Dock Landing Ships (LSDs), Amphibious Transport Docks (LPD-17s), Mine Counter Measure Ships (MCMs), Guided Missile Destroyers (DDGs), Guided Missile Cruisers (CGs), General Purpose Assault Ships (LHAs), Multiple Purpose Assault Ships (LHDs), and Amphibious Transport Docks (LPD-4s) class crews; execute a maintenance training program ships force that incorporates basic to advanced operations of propulsion and electrical steam plant material assessment, documentation and repair procedures; conduct material inspections and evaluations; deliver deck plate technical guidance in port or underway; develop lessons learned for curriculum development; assist with curriculum development as requested; and other duties as assigned.
The ERAT Leader will be expected, at times, to work non-traditional and overtime hours in accordance with the demands of a particular project, including underway demonstrations, and may be required, at times, to travel to customer sites outside of the Field Service Office area. Physical requirements may include but are not limited to: kneeling, crouching, stooping, climbing, working in confined spaces, exposure to hot/cold temperatures for extended periods, lifting, pushing and pulling.
Education & Qualifications:
High School Diploma or equivalent with Navy ‘A’ / ‘C’ school(s) or completion of some form of vocational and maritime training program AND a minimum of 20 years of technical and management experience aboard U.S. Navy vessels as denoted above
-Extensive Navy technical management experience on multiple ships; experience with Afloat Training Group (ATG) given higher consideration
-Extensive experience as shipboard Engineering Officer of the Watch (EOOW) and/or Chief Engineer (CHENG) on steam and/or diesel ships
-Extensive experience (multiple tours) as Navy Diesel and/or Steam Engine Inspector with Navy surface ship maintenance processes
-Strong communication skills
-Effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment
-Ability to obtain a security clearance – SECRET
