Senior Ship Repair Material Planner

Bay Metals & Fabrication is seeking a Senior Ship Repair Material Planner.

Position Summary:
We are seeking a Senior Material Planner to lead and coordinate material planning and procurement efforts for complex ship repair projects. This role is critical to ensuring that all materials are available on time, within scope, and in compliance with customer and project requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead material planning and procurement strategies across major ship repair and modernization projects
  • Rapidly source and price materials for change orders and emergent work, minimizing delays and cost impact
  • Develop detailed BOMs from drawings, specs and NAVSEA work items
  • Interface with suppliers for lead time, cost negotiation, and expediting
  • Coordinate with procurement, production, and project management to ensure timely delivery of materials
  • Track material status and resolve supply issues to prevent schedule delays
  • Analyze project requirements and forecast material needs
  • Mentor junior planners and contribute to continuous improvement in material control processes

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Industrial Engineering, Business, or related field
  • 5+ years of experience in material planning, ideally in a ship repair, shipbuilding, or military logistics environment
  • Strong understanding of supply chain processes in a highly regulated industry
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Excellent technical reading skills
  • Experience working in an ERP/MRP system
  • U.S. Citizenship required due to federal contract requirements

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience supporting U.S. Navy or Department of Defense projects
  • Familiarity with NAVSEA, JFMM, and MIL-SPEC standards
  • Background in shipyard or maritime operations

Pay: $75,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year

Information
Performs a combination of manual and clerical shipping and/or receiving duties which may require the use of hand trucks, forklifts, and other devices, as well as computers to maintain data. Receives incoming materials or prepares materials for shipment. Verifies quantity, weight, and conformance of materials; prepares records of materials shipped and bills of lading; routes materials to destinations. May lay out, fabricate, and assemble nonstandard shipping crates and boxes, and prepare parts and tooling for special shipment.

Ability to lift forty pounds, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes and work in high heat/cold environments, aboard ships, under industrial conditions, in confined spaces, at heights, and in extreme weather. Ability to operate portable power tools. Work may involve climbing and working on ladders.
