Position: Pipefitters
 
Job Location: Newport News, VA
Shift: Variable, 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM, Sunday - Saturday
Rate of Pay:  $29.50 per hour (Per diem available for those who qualify)
 

DESCRIPTION:

Hutco, Inc. is seeking experienced Pipefitters with three or more years of experience in the marine, commercial nuclear, or petrochemical industry. Pipefitters will be responsible for fitting carbon steel, CRES, and copper-nickel piping in demanding environments such as shipboard and sub-assemblies.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE / QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Piping Drawings: Ability to read and interpret ship piping drawings.
  2. Piping Materials: Experience fitting carbon steel, CRES, and copper-nickel piping.
  3. End Prep: Ability to end prep piping by hand and/or using Wach or Portsmouth machines.
  4. Pipe Hangers: Knowledge of installing pipe hangers.
  5. Ruler Use: Proficient in using a ruler for measurements in inches and tenths.
  6. Backing Rings: Ability to prep and fit-up backing rings.
  7. Pipe Cutting: Skilled in clean cutting or breaking pipe with a grinder.
  8. Bevels: Ability to hand prep V-bevels.
  9. Fabrication: Experience fabricating various details and assemblies from drawings.
  10. Pipe Bending: Skilled in pipe bending using templates and hand benders.
  11. Socket Fittings: Ability to fit welded sockets.
  12. Brazing: Ability to fit brazed joints with or without insert rings.

Pipefitters are typically tasked with installing and maintaining high and low pressure pipe systems, supports, and related equipment aboard waterborne or Naval vessels. A pipefitter is often required to lay out and fabricate full-scale pipe systems (including fire or sprinkler systems) prior to installation using blueprints and templates. Pipefitters must be familiar with the use of basic shop tools and machinery such as grinders, power and hand cutters, presses, bending machines, die and pipe threading machines. Pipefitters also must be familiar with various pipe joining techniques such as soldering, welding, and brazing.
Education
Most pipefitter careers require training in vocational schools, related on-the-job experience, and/or an associate's degree. A recognized apprenticeship program may be associated with these occupations.
Qualifications
Previous work-related skill, knowledge, or experience is typically required.
