ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN I (SHORE INSTALLATIONS, C4I INFRASTRUCTURE)

The role of the Engineering Technician is to provide day-to-day integration support for a variety of communication systems and Internet protocol equipment. Candidate will have a professional and courteous attitude in a deployed team environment. An Engineering Technician I must have experience with structural wiring techniques and will support Subject matter experts with various copper and fiber installation/terminations, electronic system installs, and other duties as assigned by project leads. This position reports directly to the Project Manager of the Shore Installation Group in Chesapeake, VA.

Essential Duties & Job Functions:

  • Assist with the installation, planning, testing, and integration of complex Networks, Telephony systems and command centers worldwide.
  • Installation and integration of copper and fiber infrastructure in military buildings, warehouse, and hospital environments.
  • Directly support the onsite lead to effectively prioritize and execute daily tasks.
  • Terminate data cables (cat5e, cat6)
  • Build pathways and install copper/fiber trunks in commercial setting.
  • Operates vehicles, hand tools, power tools, ladders, and test equipment.
  • Assists other team personnel in the performance of their duties.
  • Promote a team approach and problem-solving environment.
  • Completing required paperwork, timesheets, and reporting as required.
  • Provides input and noting any problems requiring attention of other staff members.

Mandatory:

  • Must have Associate’s of Sciences Degree, or equivalent and (1) years of installation/integration experience OR
    • High School diploma and Three (3) years of practical experience, to include: Installing copper/fiber cabling, testing, manufacturing, or maintenance.
  • Able to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.
  • Must be willing to travel up to 50% CONUS/OCONUS and work extended hours including weekends and holidays.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation and able to provide driving record upon request.
  • Experience reading installation drawings and tech manuals.
  • Fiber optic cable and connector building experience.
  • Current U.S. Passport and will be required to travel.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment background check and pre-hire drug test.

Electrical engineers design, develop, test, and supervise the manufacturing of electrical equipment such as electric motors, radar and navigation systems, communications systems, and power generation equipment. Electronics engineers design and develop electronic equipment, such as broadcast and communications systems—from portable music players to global positioning systems (GPS).
Education
Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering, or equivalent experience
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum of 5 years experience in electronic systems development
Bachelors degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or equivalent experience
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to develop schematics, layouts, BOM, write technical specifications, develop device and system level specification for internal use and/or external vendors or consultants

Experience in the Following:
Design of complex power systems, analog/digital, PLC, sensory/control circuits
Experience working with electro/mechanical technicians for parts and system integration
Interface with outside vendors, consultants, and driving external design resources
Proficiency in development of schematics and layouts
Proficiency in use of AutoCAD and or Inventor 3D modeling and collaboration
Knowledge of electrical codes and related regulations
Organize, analyze, interpret, and evaluate electrical engineering problems and prediction of results
Estimate labor or material costs from blueprints or work plans
Work cooperatively with others
Review or check the work products of others to ensure conformance to standards
