Make a Mission-Impact with Every Rotation supporting the East Coast CVN Aircraft Carriers – Atlantic Fleet
Are you ready to put your experience to work in a mission-critical role supporting the tip of the spear—our nation's aircraft carriers? We are looking for a driven and experienced Hydraulic Systems Specialist to join our team supporting Commander, Naval Air Force Atlantic (CNAL) and the Carrier Engineering Maintenance Assist Team (CEMAT).
Carrier Engineering Maintenance Assist Team (CEMAT) is a high paced engineering and technical support unit that assists Ship’s Force on Navy aircraft carriers (CVNs) along the East Coast with critical maintenance support covering Hull, Mechanical & Electrical (HM&E) systems, and other auxiliary systems.
If you've ever maintained, troubleshot, or led a division working on shipboard hydraulic or auxiliary equipment and systems - this is your chance to continue making a difference.
Primary Responsibilities
- Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in hydraulic systems and auxiliary equipment, providing direct support to CVN shipboard personnel in the Atlantic fleet.
- Deliver over-the-shoulder guidance and hands-on training (OJT) to ship's force Sailors, enhancing system readiness and warfighting capability.
- Provide engineering and technical assistance related to maintenance practices, material readiness, and operational troubleshooting.
- Support the CEMAT auxiliaries project team, working closely with CNAL leadership and carrier crews to improve system performance, reduce maintenance burden, and extend equipment lifecycle.
- Execute duties independently and as a valued team member in coordination with CEMAT leadership, CNAL, and supporting engineering commands.
- Solve complex technical issues using structured methodologies and best practices—bring your fleet experience and apply it in a dynamic problem-solving environment.
- Support Fleet Maintenance and Industrial Management, Quality Assurance (QA/QC), and Systems Engineering initiatives across the TYCOM enterprise.
- Develop actionable recommendations through analysis of fleet trends, maintenance records, and system performance data.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s + 3 years or an Associate’s + 6 years or High School diploma + 9 years’ experience
- Prior experience working with or supporting U.S. Navy shipboard hydraulic and auxiliary systems—CVN experience highly preferred.
- Strong understanding of Navy maintenance practices, including 3M, corrective maintenance, and technical documentation.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with junior Sailors, Chiefs, and Officers alike—mentorship mindset is a plus.
- Experience delivering training, conducting system assessments, or leading technical teams in high-tempo environments.
- Comfortable working shipboard and adapting to operational tempo and conditions.
Desired Qualifications:
- Navy Auxiliary Systems and Equipment NECs or Rate background in MM, EN, or similar mechanical systems specialties.
- A Navy Auxiliary Systems Machinist’s Mate is an ideal candidate for this position, bringing hands-on expertise in hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems, along with a proven track record of maintaining complex shipboard equipment under demanding operational conditions.
- Past tours on CVNs, Surface Ships, maintenance support activities, or related technical roles.
- Experience with Navy data systems (e.g., SKED, OMMS-NG, R-Supply, AWN).
