We specialize in the design and fabrication of fiber optic tools, tool kits, and custom cable assemblies. We also produce private label kits for a number of major connector manufacturers and sell our own broad line of products. Our field services division also performs on-site termination, splicing, troubleshooting and testing support, and our training division provides hands-on training and certification programs. Position Summary

The Fiber Optic Trainer is responsible for delivering performance-based instruction in fiber optic and copper technologies, including connectors, cabling, tooling, inspection, and test equipment. This role requires maintaining proficiency in current industry standards and obtaining NAVSEA Fiber Optic Certification per NAVSEA Drawing 8477552.

Key Responsibilities

Instruction & Course Delivery

  • Deliver NAVSEA-certified training in accordance with NAVSEA Drawing 8477552
  • Teach a variety of fiber optic courses across commercial, military, and aviation disciplines
  • Instruct copper cabling courses as needed
  • Ensure students have appropriate tools, materials, and equipment for hands-on training
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and effective learning environment

Classroom & Equipment Management

  • Inventory and organize classroom tooling before and after each class
  • Identify and report discrepancies; order replacements as needed
  • Ensure all test and peripheral equipment is operational and calibrated
  • Maintain ETA Test Administrator status and manage ETA exams and materials

Curriculum Development & Continuous Improvement

  • Assist in developing and updating training materials to align with current standards
  • Modify existing curricula based on industry updates and student feedback
  • Stay current with MIL-STD 2042, MIL-STD 2052, NEC, EIA/TIA, and ETA standards
  • Proactively seek opportunities to enhance KITCO’s training programs and facilities
  • Cross-train in additional courses to expand instructional capabilities

Administrative & Professional Duties

  • Maintain accurate student and class records in the department database
  • Review student evaluations and address training deficiencies
  • Submit weekly timesheets and travel expense reports on time
  • Support marketing initiatives for the training department
  • Adhere to company policies and maintain professional appearance and conduct
  • Participate in semi-annual performance evaluations (lecture and demonstration)
  • Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access
  • Perform other duties and tasks as assigned to support business

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position (standing or sitting) for extended periods while instructing or preparing materials
  • Must be able to move throughout classroom, and training environments to assist students and access equipment
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds occasionally (e.g., training kits, cabling, test equipment)
  • Must be able to position oneself to inspect, install, or demonstrate fiber optic and copper components, which may involve bending, kneeling, or reaching
  • Must be able to ascend/descend ladders or steps to access training setups or equipment
  • Must be able to operate standard office and training equipment, including computers, projectors, and hand tools
  • Must be able to travel domestically and internationally, which may involve extended periods of sitting, walking, and carrying luggage or equipment
  • Must be able to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) when required

Education & Qualifications

  • Associate of Science degree preferred
  • NEC 9502 with minimum 2 years teaching experience preferred
  • 3 years teaching experience from a certified training organization or community college preferred
  • Subject Matter Expert (SME) with 5 years field experience and successful completion of KITCO Instructor Qualification Program preferred

Requirements

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid U.S. passport.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Defense SECRET clearance.
  • Some domestic and international travel may be required.
  • Must be available to work overtime as needed, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, based on business demands.
