Safety Supervisor/Shipyard Competent Person

Bay Metals & Fabrication is looking for an experienced Safety Supervisor/Shipyard Competent Person (CP) to join our team. This role is critical to ensuring the safety of our people, our customers, and every space we work in. We are looking for someone with high integrity, a strong commitment to safety, and a current CP qualification.

What You’ll Do

  • Conduct safety inspections and walkthroughs across all job sites
  • Perform and verify CP assessments to ensure spaces are safe prior to entry
  • Communicate directly with customers during walkthroughs and inspections
  • Build strong working relationships with our workforce and production teams
  • Respond to and manage accidents, near misses, and incident investigations
  • Lead, mentor, and direct our Safety Inspectors and Competent Persons
  • Provide training, answer questions, and ensure full coverage for all safety and CP needs
  • Manage schedules to support nearly 7-day-a-week operations
  • Work early hours as needed (sometimes as early as 2:00 AM) to ensure all spaces are cleared and ready before production starts at 6:00 AM

Physical & Operational Requirements

  • Ability to climb vertical ladders up to 100 feet.
  • Able to enter confined and enclosed spaces, distinguish colors, kneel, stand, squat, crawl through openings, climb stairs, sit, reach, and walk up to 5 miles per day. These physical activities are frequent in nature.
  • Must be capable of wearing a respirator.
  • Must be able to access all local shipyards (BAE, MHI, NOB, NNSY, NASSCO, etc.).
  • Must have reliable transportation.

What We’re Looking For

  • Current Shipyard Competent Person (CP) certification – required
  • Strong understanding of OSHA, NAVSEA, and shipyard safety requirements
  • Proven experience in ship repair or industrial safety
  • Ability to lead a team while maintaining accountability and trust
  • Excellent communication skills with both customers and employees
  • High level of integrity, reliability, and professionalism
  • Ability to work a demanding schedule, including early mornings and weekend coverage
