Shipboard Electricians

 

AIT is seeking Experienced Shipboard Electricians to support government‑contracted shipboard electrical work. This position provides electrical support for onboard equipment and temporary service systems and requires adherence to federal contracting standards, safety regulations, and shipyard work practices.


What You’ll Do

  • Layout, fabricate, and install electrical wiring, coaxial cable, and fiber optic systems onboard Navy vessels.
  • Disconnect and reconnect fan motors, motor controllers, and associated cabling.
  • Install, maintain, and remove temporary service electrical cables.
  • Perform basic shipboard electrical tasks on mechanical and support equipment.
  • Service AC/DC generators, switchboards, distribution panels, lighting, and alarm circuits.
  • Read, interpret, and follow electrical blueprints, schematics, and work packages.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical equipment and cables.
  • Remove and install cables overhead, along bulkheads, and under decks.
  • Comply with AIT policies, shipyard regulations, and all applicable OSHA and federal safety standards.
  • Support project schedules and quality requirements in a government contract environment.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and compliant work area at all times.

 What We’re Looking For

  • Must have experience with basic 3-wire electrical systems.
  • Working knowledge of 110V, 220V, and 440V electrical systems.
  • Ability to read and understand electrical drawings and schematics.
  • Must be eligible to work under U.S. government contract requirements.
  • Experience: 2nd Class to 1st Class Marine Electrician with shipboard experience (3–5 years preferred).
  • U.S. Citizen; able to pass drug test and background check.
  • DBIDS eligible; familiar with Navy Standard Items.
  • Experience with multi-pin copper connectors; MCT qualification per Navy Standard Item 009-73 (MIL-STD-2003-5) preferred.
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations for ship repair.
  • Must provide and maintain trade tools.
  • Reliable transportation required.
