Platform & Services is seeking a Pipefitter. The Pipe Shop Mechanic performs a variety of skilled mechanical duties involving general fitting piping systems on vessels, burning/brazing, testing and sketching piping systems.

The Mechanic operates equipment for assembly and installation; performs preventative and predictive maintenance on facility machinery; records work performed and follows specified safety policies and procedure.
 

  • Laying out, presenting, fitting, and installing pipe, tubing, and related equipment. This includes installing valves, hangers, and supports.
  • Cutting, threading, and bending pipes to specific lengths and angles using tools like pipe cutters, threading machines, and torches.
  • Connecting pipes using various techniques, including welding, soldering, brazing, and threading.
  • Conduct pressure tests and leak checks to ensure the integrity of the system before it becomes operational.
  • Inspecting existing piping systems for wear, corrosion, or leaks and replacing damaged sections.
  • Interpreting technical drawings, isometric sketches, and specifications to determine the layout and materials required for a project.

Pipefitters are typically tasked with installing and maintaining high and low pressure pipe systems, supports, and related equipment aboard waterborne or Naval vessels. A pipefitter is often required to lay out and fabricate full-scale pipe systems (including fire or sprinkler systems) prior to installation using blueprints and templates. Pipefitters must be familiar with the use of basic shop tools and machinery such as grinders, power and hand cutters, presses, bending machines, die and pipe threading machines. Pipefitters also must be familiar with various pipe joining techniques such as soldering, welding, and brazing.
Education
Most pipefitter careers require training in vocational schools, related on-the-job experience, and/or an associate's degree. A recognized apprenticeship program may be associated with these occupations.
Qualifications
Previous work-related skill, knowledge, or experience is typically required.
