Safety Inspector

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • The purpose of this job is to provide support directly to Safety Manager.
  • Responsible for assisting with New Hire Safety training including issuing of PPE
  • Perform annual required safety training
  • Read and review NAVSEA/Shipyard/OSHA Standards
  • Provide assistance and support to the Safety Manager as needed.
  • Daily walk throughs of all hot work operations on all vessels currently be worked
  • Daily reports to Safety Manager on any observed safety infractions and or potential safety infractions
  • Report condition of all CP Gas meters to Safety Manager for repair
  • Conducting Safety Walk Through’s for all jobsitesRequesting Statements to conduct Safety Investigations to include injuries/incidents.
  • Communicate on site safety needs to Safety Manager such as PPE, Training, Fall protection etc.
  • Communicate the site condition, progress and velleity of NASSCO safety hit list items
  • Assist Safety Manager with maintaining and tracking required safety certifications

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of seven years shipboard experience within the trade to be supervised
  • Previous supervisory responsibilities required
  • Technical training preferred
  • Expert knowledge of and ability to use hand tools and instruments associated with the trade
  • Must be able to work effectively with others
  • Must be a steady, reliable worker
  • Must be able to comprehend and follow complex instructions
  • Must be self-motivated and able to complete responsibilities with minimal direction Knowledge of and ability to use hand tools and instruments associated with the trade
  • Must be able to work and communicate effectively with othersComprehend blueprints, sketches, and templates
  • Must be able to comprehend complex structural assembly drawings, blueprints, and sketches includes weld symbols, material types, datum, and reference lines.
  • Familiar with OSHA regulations relative to the shipbuilding industry

  • Work in confined spaces such as boilers, tanks and voids
  • Access areas of facility and vessels by inclined and vertical ladders
  • Hear, talk, and smell
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus
