As proven and implemented by the US DoD (US NAVY), the PlasmaBlast tool made by Atmospheric Plasma Solutions (APS) improves and speeds up sustainment operations. This is the next generation of surface preparation on marine, land and aviation platforms and assets. The system uses only air and electricity to remove coatings, clean surfaces and promote adhesion significantly faster and cheaper than tools used today. The added benefits are greater worker and environmental safety. This method uses no media, requires no containment and does no damage to the substrate. The technology works using only air and electricity to vaporize paints, sealants and epoxies using a non-thermal plasma. The tool is precise, portable, and powerful so that it deploys to areas where corrosion begins and hides. The TRL 9 level equipment is simple to operate and quick to learn. This is a complement and/or replacement for chemical stripping, media blasting, water jetting, needle guns and hand work with wire brushes. This SBIR program supported innovation serves the missions of readiness and sustainment for new construction, repairs, and maintenance.
