If you missed the 30th Annual VSRF golf tournament that was held on Tuesday, August 16th at Bayville Golf Club you really missed a great day of camaraderie among members and golfers who came out to show their support for this annual fundraiser. Starting with the play over the water on the first tee throughout the entire day, this year’s tournament was a smashing success!
As expected, all 144 golfer slots sold out in record time. We broke all previous records selling out prior to June 15th with full sponsorships. 50 out of 249 VSRA member companies were sponsors, contributors and participants – that’s 20% of membership! We are truly thankful that so many VSRA member companies and volunteers always go above and beyond in supporting this annual event by offering their time and providing extra gifts to the golfers to enhance this great tournament. The beautiful and very hot weather greeted the golfers as they checked in with the volunteer staff at registration. Golfers received lunch and commemorative items in celebration of our 30th anniversary year. It was a beautiful day on the course. Golfers gathered for the after golf reception which included special recognitions, a delicious buffet dinner and with high hopes of winning the fantastic gift items and door prizes. Congratulations to team Capitol Finishes, Inc. in winning first place. Coming in second place was Integrity Staffing Services with LPI Technical Services taking third.
With the assistance of many volunteers coupled with the continued member support and sponsorships of this annual event, we were able to execute a very successful tournament which will assist in our mission of providing workforce training, development and career outreach to the ship repair industry. All proceeds from this event benefit the Virginia Ship Repair Foundation and the development of identified training required for all of our ship repair workers. Every year I say, “I don’t know how we can top this next year”, but somehow we always do and that is because of you, our valued members!
Thank You, our members and many volunteers for making this the number one, sought-after tournament year after year! Be sure to mark your calendar for August 15, 2017 for our 31st annual tournament. It will be another great time, good food, fun and great golfing - all to benefit your Virginia Ship Repair Foundation!

Leigh Kennedy is the Facility Security Officer for General Dynamics NASSCO-Norfolk where she manages industrial security, physical security, personnel security and security classification operations for the organization. February 2017 will mark her 30th year in the ship repair industry, where she has also been volunteering and chairing VSRA’s golf tournament for 29 of them! Leigh also serves as the chairperson for VSRA’s Security Committee and volunteers with the local NCMS Hampton Roads Chapter. She has a well-earned reputation within the ship repair community as the go-to person for help and guidance with RAPIDGate, JPAS and SWFT electronic fingerprint submissions. Leigh admits she is not a golfer, but she rides her own Harley.
