Foundation Spotlight: 2020 NextGen Inspire Career EXPO

Volunteer Today!!

On March 25th we will partner with the Hampton Roads Workforce Council to participate in the 2020 NextGen Inspire Career EXPO at ODU’s Chartway Arena (Ted Constant Center). The NextGen Inspire Career EXPO will provide hands-on learning opportunities for middle and high schools students to explore careers in the maritime trades and healthcare. The idea is to make sure this expo is not “just another career fair” by ensuring it is as hands-on and interactive as possible. VSRA has created demonstration stations inside the arena which will expose students to a variety of different Ship Repair trades: welding, pipefitting, shipfitting, inside / outside machinist, sheet metal / habitability, rigging, electrical, and coatings / blasting. Our team is working to plan each of these stations, and volunteers are still needed to assist!

The event will be anchored by these stations, which will feature interactive displays and demonstrations. There will be 1,000+ students from Norfolk, Suffolk, Chesapeake, Portsmouth, Franklin, Southampton County and Virginia Beach at this event. This is a great opportunity to reach a large number of students from various locations who will soon be transitioning out of high school and into the workforce. There is still room for your organization to participate!

If you are interested in volunteering for this event or one of our Outreach Events; or would like to receive weekly Volunteer Announcements, please contact Darius R. Swift at DSwift@VirginiaShipRepair.org or at (757) 233-7034.
