Virginia Senator Jen Kiggans to Address VSRA Membership at September Luncheon

The September VSRA General Membership meeting of 2021 will be held in-person at the Portsmouth Renaissance Hotel on Tuesday, September 21th, 2021 at 12:00 P.M. The speaker for the meeting will be Virginia Senator Jen Kiggans.

Jen Kiggans is a former Navy helicopter pilot and current Geriatric Nurse Practitioner who was elected to Virginia’s 7th Senate district seat in November 2019. This seat includes parts of Norfolk and Virginia Beach.

After receiving her bachelor’s degree from Boston University in International Relations, Jen taught English in Japan for a year with the Japanese exchange and teaching program before reporting to Pensacola for naval flight training. After being winged as a naval aviator in 1995, Jen served for a total of ten years as a helicopter pilot flying H-46 and H-3 helicopters. She completed two deployments to the Persian Gulf.

After the Navy, Jen went back to school using her GI bill to become a board-certified Adult-Geriatric Primary Care Nurse Practitioner. She is a graduate of Old Dominion University’s Nursing School and Vanderbilt University’s Nurse Practitioner program. Jen serves as a primary care provider for a small private practice in Virginia Beach and has worked in several long-term care and nursing facilities in Virginia Beach and Norfolk.

Her husband, Steve, is a retired F-18 pilot and current United Airlines pilot. Jen is a mom to four busy children, two of which continued their parents' commitment to service. Jen's oldest is a junior at the US Naval Academy and she also has a freshman at Virginia Military Institute.

As the current representative of the 7th Senate District, Jen serves on the following Senate Committees: Local Government, General Laws and Technology, and Rehabilitation and Social Services. In addition, Jen serves on the Joint Subcommittee on Coastal Flooding and Joint Commission on Healthcare.
