We hosted our 29th Annual Safety & Health Seminar last week, bringing together industry professionals for a day of learning, networking, and a renewed focus on workplace safety. With the theme "Kick Off To Safety!", the event drew over 250 attendees to the Ted Constant Convocation Center, Chartway Arena, ODU for a series of presentations, demonstrations, and discussions.
The seminar featured a variety of tracks catering to different roles within the ship repair industry, including a Side Room Track, Arena Demonstration Tracks, and a Leadership Track. Presentations covered a wide range of topics, from "Stretch and Flex Programs" and "Musculoskeletal and Overuse Injury Prevention" to "Supervisor Leadership Training" and "Leading an Incident Investigation."
The day began with a keynote address from John Polowczyk of the Virginia Ship Repair Association. Other notable presenters included Dr. Cade Cinnamond from Concentra, Jim Graham of PJG Ventures, and Anthony Milam from OSHA. Demonstrations on forklift safety, virtual reality learning, and inspecting handheld grinders provided attendees with practical insights.
The event was made possible through the generous support of numerous sponsors. Platinum sponsors included 3M, Accurate Marine Environmental, LLC, American Equity Underwriters, Avoler Group LLC., BAE Systems Norfolk Ship Repair, East Coast Repair & Fabrication, General Dynamics NASSCO - Norfolk, HYTORC, JH Norton Company Inc, OBBCO Safety & Supply, Pirtek, PR International Piping System LLC, RVT Group, Signal Management Services, Tidewater Staffing, and Vallen Distribution.
