The purpose of VSRA members attending Career Days is to promote Ship Repair as a valuable asset in the community and send students a message that invites them to consider a job in the ship repair industry.
We want to thank each of our volunteers who participated in the 2012 Career Days held at schools around Hampton Roads: Terry Stead (Tecnico Corporation); Troi Croswell (Tecnico Corporation); Colleen Becker (Marine Chemist); Robert Caldwell (Romulus LLC); Don Thompson (The GBS Group); Hearst Vann (BB&T); Brian Miller (Earl Industries); Kelly Bovell (Earl Industries); Rick Merkel (Earl Industries); Linda Hyatt (Marine Hydraulics International); Viki Rodriguez (Colonna's Shipyard); Ron Burkhardt (Epsilon Systems); Alan Walker (BAE Systems Norfolk Ship Repair); Gregg Kennerly (Advanced Benefits Strategies); Amanda Doss (NSC Technologies); Stephen Giannetti (Metropolitan Laboratories, Inc.); and Michael Barclift (Waddell & Reed, Inc.). This experience has provided a wonderful opportunity for VSRA members to share their work knowledge and experience with the youth in our area.
Our volunteer teams reached over 5,000 students in 15 middle and high schools. This is a valuable program that saves our member companies a great deal of time and money by consolidating our efforts. We have also had the opportunity to participate to date in over 12 of our area Elementary School Career Days reaching over 6,000 students with 7 more schools scheduled for June. We provide materials and branding items to promote the ship repair industry.
If you have a school you would like us to add to our list, please contact, Sylvia Bell at sbell@VirginiaShipRepair.org.
