Network Engineer

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND PURPOSE (Job Description) The Network Engineer will diagnose, triage, resolve and document network-related support calls and questions from users or customers. They evaluate requests for new services, propose appropriate solutions and perform testing and turn-up of these services. They also ensure accuracy of service and network documentation, maintain network integrity and monitor network alarms, troubleshoot network issues, aid in restoration of network services and assist in root cause analysis events. This position requires participation in on-call rotation as scheduled. This position requires understanding and following standard procedures, escalating situations falling outside of these procedures to management. The Network Engineer should have well-developed decision making, analytical and problem-solving skills, displaying the ability to provide solutions where they may not currently exist. They must possess excellent oral/written communication skills, be a self-starter, results-oriented with strong organizational ability and a high level of integrity. The Network Engineer must be able to work independently, but also be a solid team player and contributor. Errors in work or actions should be contained within working unit or project II.POSITION DEMANDS (Education/Experience/Skill Sets) •Bachelor’s degree or 5-8 years directly related experience. •Broad knowledge of networking concepts •Cisco, Juniper or additional certifications a plus •Experience with Cisco switching a plus •Knowledgeable and proficient with full suite of Microsoft products (Word, Excel, Visio, etc.) •Knowledge of telecommunications network design principles and processes. •Possess Critical thinking skills and problem-solving ability. •Excellent communication skills both oral and written. •Be an accurate, flexible, fast learner with a consistent attention to detail and follow-up. •At least 2 years’ experience supporting MS Windows environment. •Be self-motivated and able to work with little or no supervision. •Must demonstrate a willingness to learn. •Ability to multi-task in a busy and changing work environment with critical deadlines. •US Citizenship is required Able to lift 50lbs and be comfortable working in an outdoor environment in all types of weather in a variety of conditions Must be willing and able to work shipboard and in tight spaces. Must be willing and able to pull and install various types of network infrastructure cable Vision Requirements: The worker is required to have visual acuity to perform an activity such as: operating equipment where the seeing job is at or within arm’s reach or performing mechanical or skilled trades tasks of a non-repetitive nature such as ones by technicians, service people, etc. IV. WORKING RELATIONSHIPS Reports to Network Manager. Collaborates with members of the IT Infrastructure team. V. PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES •Troubleshoot LAN and WAN connectivity issues and assist with upgrades and modifications as required •Maintain network hardware and software inventory records •Lead, coordinate and/or participate in IT projects as assigned •Assist in completion of daily checklists for network health and security and raise concerns as necessary •Provide coordination and problem resolution for all ship board provided services •Maintain cabling plant diagrams and documentation VI. Engineering Design workers are typically responsible for the generation of panel layouts, sub assemblies, schematics, wiring diagrams, wire run lists, component selection, etc. for electrical systems of large scale industrial machinery. The main tool for design documentation is AutoCAD.

Job Functions:
•Assure drawings and layouts are accurate, complete, and finished in a timely manner.
•Generation and maintenance of bill of materials and parts lists.
•Applying Engineering design techniques and utilize calculations in support of design/experimental activities.
•Develop electrical wiring schematics, sub-assembly drawings, and bills of material for control system design.
•Identify and solve technical engineering problems.
•Provide or assist in the creation of technical descriptions of operation, equipment checkout procedures, technical reports, user manuals and other documentation as required.
•Release components and system designs for manufacture of orders.
•Estimate man-hours required for tasks and report progress on assigned tasks.
•Provide plans, schedules, and estimates for technical programs.
•Work in conjunction with other groups to organize and plan assigned projects.
Education
A BSEE / BSET or Two Year Electrical Technical Degree is typically required.
Qualifications
1-5 years experience in CAD electrical design related to ship repair/maintenance using recent versions of AutoCAD
Must be able to read, interpret and produce engineering schematics, wiring diagrams, point-to-point drawings, and engineering fabrication drawings
Must be able to work aboard vessels, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces
Must be a team player
Must be flexible in reference to project priorities
Must be willing to assemble technical manuals
